Oracle® DIVAdirector

Release Notes

Release 5.3

E65549-02

September 2016

This document provides release information for Oracle DIVAdirector Release 5.3. Read this documentation before installing and using DIVAdirector.

Installing, Configuring, or Updating DIVAdirector

Contact Oracle Support for assistance installing, updating, or configuring DIVAdirector. The Oracle Support Contacts Global Directory can be found at:

http://www.oracle.com/us/support/contact/index.html

Refer to the Oracle DIVAdirector Administrator Guide for administrator-configurable parameters, and the Oracle DIVAdirector User Guide for user-configurable parameters.

System Requirements

DIVAdirector Release 5.3 requires the DIVArchive system to be release 7.1 or later. Before installing or upgrading DIVAdirector, refer to the Oracle DIVAdirector Administrator guide and confirm that your system meets all requirements.

Security

Oracle recommends keeping the OS and browser up to date with the latest security patches. However, Oracle cannot guarantee that all patches will operate correctly with DIVAdirector because the OS and browser security patches are independent of the DIVAdirector application.

You should determine the acceptable OS and browser security patch level for your environment. Contact Oracle Support for assistance in determining patch level compatibility.

DIVAdirector Release 5.3 Enhancements

DIVAdirector Release 5.3 improvements are identified in the following subsections.

Licensing Requirements

DIVAdirector is licensed per user, not per concurrent user. However, System Administrators identify the Maximum Concurrent Users on the Admin, System, Defaults page of the DIVAdirector GUI. The maximum number of concurrent users can range between one and one hundred.

Data Layer Replacement

The DIVAdirector data layer replacement facilitates enhanced database interaction and removes security vulnerabilities (for example, SQL injection).

Local Archive

Local archive now uses a downloadable control that authenticates against the DIVAdirector Server for all uploads instead of the Plupload control. Selected files are transferred from a configured network storage location to a local archive directory without the need for an intermediate storage location. Refer to the Oracle DIVAdirector User Guide for detailed usage information.

Metadata Drop Folders

DIVAdirector Release 5.3 includes support for escape characters (for example, quotation marks) in CSV files placed in Metadata Drop Folders. A new web interface is used for configuring Metadata Drop Folders. Currently only the Metadata Drop Folders are supported using the web interface - other types of Drop Folders currently still use their configuration files.

Proxy Restoration

Restoring to the Transcode Service Source/Destination through DIVAdirector will generate a new proxy for the object being restored.

Database Schema

Database enhancements include normalization, addition of primary keys, and implied foreign keys being converted to actual foreign keys. The new database structure meets the requirements for implementing an Object Relational Mapping (ORM) subsystem.

An enhanced dynamic indexing scheme facilitates fast searching of specific metadata and optimizes the queries used for advanced searching.

Unmanaged Proxy Locations

This feature has been removed and is no longer available.

Search Functionality

Performing searches against the new database schema and enriched full text search functionality produces a significant speed increase during processing of complicated queries.

Improved search filters inherit characteristics from the parent filter. Any limitations set at a higher level in the organizational tree automatically limit access to the descendants.

Full text searching replaces literal string matching in basic searches. Refer to the Oracle DIVAdirector User Guide for additional details.

Administrators configure the default sort ordering on the Admin, System, Defaults page to automatically select default search results ordering.

New DIVAdirector Transcode Service

DIVAdirector Release 5.3 introduces a new DIVAdirector Transcode Service.

Proxy Embedded Time-Code Support

The DIVAdirector Transcode Service extracts and stores header timecode information during the transcoding process, and then stores it as metadata associated with the proxy.

Enhanced Vantage Implementation

Enhancements to DIVAdirector's implementation of the Vantage transcoder uses the Web Services (WS) API RESTful schema included in the Vantage SDK to integrate with the transcode service.

Transcoding Metadata Extraction

The DIVAdirector Transcode Service extracts and stores metadata as key value pairs during the transcoding process so manual extraction is not required.
