Using Oracle Social Network on Your Android Device

How do I start a Conversation on an Android device?

  1. Open slide-out navigation, and tap the Conversations icon.

  2. Tap the Action menu, and then tap New Conversation.

  3. Enter a name for the new Conversation, and tap OK.

  4. The new Conversation appears in the list of Conversations. You can start posting messages and uploading documents.

How do I edit Conversation settings on an Android device?

  1. Open the Conversation you want to configure.

  2. Tap the Action menu, and then tap Conversations Settings.

  3. To change the name of the Conversation, modify the Name field.

  4. To make the Conversation public, check the box to the right of Make Publicly Available.

  5. If you want to hide membership messages on the Conversation, check the box to the right of Hide Membership Messages.

How do I add and remove Conversation members on an Android device?

To add members:

  1. Open the Conversation.

  2. Tap the spinner icon in the banner, and then tap Members.

  4. From the list of contacts, tap the check box to the right of the name you'd like to add.

    Alternatively, search for a person or group to add.

To remove members:

  1. Open the Conversation.

  2. Tap the spinner icon in the banner, and then tap Members.

  3. Tap to select the check box next to the name you want to remove, then tap the trash can icon in the banner.

How do I open a One-on-One Conversation on an Android device?

  1. Open slide-out navigation, and tap the People icon.

  2. Tap the person you want to start a One-on-One Conversation with to open his or her profile.

  3. Tap the Open One-on-One button.

How do I mute or unmute a Conversation on an Android device?

To mute a Conversation:

  1. Open slide-out navigation, and tap the Conversations icon.

  2. Long press the Conversation you want to mute.

  3. Tap Mute.

    The muted Conversation now appears under the Muted filter.

To unmute a Conversation:

  1. Open slide-out navigation, and tap the Conversations icon.

  2. Tap the spinner icon in the banner, and then tap Muted.

  3. Long press the Conversation you want to unmute, and then tap Unmute.

How do I create, reply to, edit, or delete messages on an Android device?

To create a message:

  1. Open the Conversation.

  2. Tap the Compose button to write a message or upload a photo or video.

    • To post a message, enter your message.

    • To post a file, tap the Upload icon (the paperclip), and then tap a source for the upload and follow the steps to select a file.

      Note: To upload multiple photos at the same time, tap Choose a Picture from Gallery and then tap all the photos you want to upload.

      When you upload photos, rotate and crop tools become available for adjusting the file's size and orientation. Tap an image, and then tap Edit.

    • To post a link to another Oracle Social Network item, tap the Insert Reference icon.

    • Optionally, add a comment to post with the uploaded file.

  3. Tap OK.

To reply to a message:

  1. Long press the message you want to reply to.

  2. Tap Reply, and enter your reply.

  3. Tap OK.

To edit a message:

Note: Any special markup on a message is lost when you edit the message.

  1. Long press the message you want to edit.

  2. Tap Edit Message, and make your changes.

  3. Tap OK.

To delete a message:

  1. Long press the message you want to delete.

  2. Tap Delete.

  3. In the confirmation dialog, tap Yes

How do I add a reference to a collection or Social Object on an Android device?

  1. Open the Conversation.

  2. Tap the Compose button.

  3. Tap the Insert Reference button in the banner.

  4. Tap the name of the object you want to reference.

  5. Tap OK.

How do I add a referring item to a Conversation?

This action creates a relationship between the Conversation and the item you select, making it easy to navigate between the two. You can add an existing item or add a new one.

  1. Open the Conversation.

  2. Tap the spinner icon in the banner, and then tap Referring.

  3. Tap the Add Referring icon.

    Tip: Tap the spinner icon to choose between Recent, Favorites, or Search to find the collection or Social Object.

  4. Tap the name of the collection or Social Object to add.

    Alternatively, you can create a new collection.

  5. Tap the Add Collection icon.

  6. Enter a name for the new Collection.

  7. Tap OK.

How do I mark messages as read on an Android device?

  1. Open the Conversation.

  2. To mark a single message as read, tap the message you want to mark as read. The blue unread indicator disappears.

  3. To mark all messages as read, tap the Action menu, and then tap Mark All Read.

  4. Alternatively, if you have the navigation for unread messages turned on, you can tap the unread message count to mark all read.

How do I view collections on an Android device?

  1. Open slide-out navigation, and tap the Collections icon.

  2. Tap the spinner icon in the banner, and then tap:

    • Yours to show the collections you created.

    • Favorites to show the collections you have marked as favorite.

    • Available to show all the collections available to you.

    • Muted to show the collections that you have muted.

    • Closed to show the collections that have been closed.

How do I add a Conversation to a collection on an Android device?

  2. Tap the name of the collection to add a Conversation to.

  3. Tap the spinner icon in the banner, and then tap Related.

  5. Tap the spinner icon in the banner, and tap a filter to select a source for the Conversation or wall (either Recent, Favorites, or Search).

  6. Tap the Conversation or wall to add it to the collection

How do I add a related item to a Social Object on an Android device?

You can add an existing item or create a new one.

To add an existing item:

  1. Open the Social Object.

  2. Tap the spinner icon in the banner, and then tap Related.

    Tip: Tap the spinner icon in the banner, and tap a filter to select a source (either Recent, Favorites, or Search) to find the Conversation, Social Object, or wall.

To add a new Conversation:

  1. Follow steps 1 through 3.

  2. Tap the Add Conversation icon.

To add a new collection:

  1. Follow steps 1 through 3.

  2. Tap the Add Collection icon.

How do I upload and download documents on an Android device?

To upload a document:

  1. Open the document in the application you want to upload from.

  2. On the application's sharing menu, tap Oracle Social Network.

  3. Optionally, rename the file and add a description.

  4. Tap Conversation Select Destination to choose the Conversation, Social Object, or wall to post the document to.

  5. Tap Upload.

To download a document:

  1. Navigate to the document you want to download, and tap the Action menu.

How do I view an earlier version of a document on an Android device?

Long press the document and tap Versions.

How do I share documents with applications on an Android device?

  1. Open a preview of the document.

  2. Tap the action menu.

  3. Tap Share.

    A list of applications appears.

  4. Tap the application you want to copy the document to.

  5. Tap Always if the application is the one you will always use; tap Just Once, to choose an application each time you share a document.

How do I annotate a document on an Android device?

  1. Open the document you want to annotate.

  2. Tap the annotations button, and then tap the type of annotation you want to use.

    • Tap None to exit an annotation tool without selecting another.

    • Tap Pushpin, and tap the place you want the annotation to appear.

    • Tap Pen, and write or draw over an area of any size.

    • Tap Highlighter, and highlight one line.

    • Tap Rectangle, and draw a rectangle over an area of any size.

    • Tap Ellipse, and draw a circle around an area of any size.

  3. Add a comment to the annotation.

  4. Tap OK.

  5. Tap Publish Annotation so everyone can see it.

To show or hide annotations:

  1. Open the annotated document, and tap the Annotations filter.

  2. Tap a filter to show:

    • All Annotations—All annotations to the document

    • No Annotations—No one's annotations

    • Unpublished Annotations—Annotations that have not been published yet

    • <Name>—Only the annotations that were added by the person you tap.

How do I create and remove folders on an Android device?

  1. Open slide-out navigation, and tap the Conversations icon. Android conversations icon

  2. Open the Conversation where you want to create a new folder, and tap the Documents filter.

  3. On the Action menu, tap New Folder.

  4. Enter a name for the new folder, and tap OK.

To remove a folder, long press it and tap Remove Folder. Tap Yes to confirm.

How do I move documents into and out of folders on an Android device?

How do I view and edit my profile on an Android device?

  1. Open slide-out navigation, and tap your name.

  2. Tap the spinner icon in the banner, and tap Profile.

  4. Modify any field or enter new data.

  5. Optionally, tap Change, and then tap Take a Photo or Choose a Photo and follow the steps for updating your profile picture.

  6. Tap Update.

How do I view and post to another person's wall on an Android device?

  1. Open slide-out navigation, and tap the People icon.

  3. Tap the spinner icon in the banner, and then tap Wall.

How do I follow or stop following someone on an Android device?

To follow someone:

  1. Open slide-out navigation, and tap the People icon.

  2. Tap the Add Contacts icon.

  3. Enter the name, part of the name, or the email address of the person to follow.

  4. On your results list, tap the check box to the right of a name to mark it.

  5. Tap Add.

  6. On your Contacts list, find the name you just added and tap it to open that person's profile.

  7. Tap +Follow.

Note: Alternatively, on People tap the spinner icon in the banner and then tap Recommendations. Tap the name of the person you want to follow to open his or her profile. Tap +Follow to add the name to your contacts list.

Oracle Social Network generates the Recommendations list based on actions you have in common with others—documents you've both read, Conversations you're both members of, and other commonly taken actions.

To stop following someone:

  1. Open slide-out navigation, and tap the People icon.

  3. Tap a name to navigate to that person's wall.

  4. Tap Stop Following.

  5. Tap OK.

  6. Tap Remove to also remove the name from your list of contacts; otherwise, tap No.

How do I add to my Oracle Social Network contacts on an Android device?

  1. Open slide-out navigation, and tap the People icon.

  3. Enter the name, part of the name, or the email address of the person to add.

  4. In the results list, tap the check box to the right of a name to mark it.

  5. Tap Add.

How do I save an Oracle Social Network contact to my Android contacts list?

  3. Tap the Add to Phone Contacts button at the bottom of the screen.

  4. Tap OK in the confirmation message.

How do I create a group and edit its profile on an Android device?

  1. Open slide-out navigation, and tap the Groups icon.

  3. In the Name field, enter the name of the new group.

  4. In the Description field, enter a description of the group.

  5. Click Change to add a photo.

  6. Tap Create.

    The new group opens.

  7. To add members to the group, tap the spinner icon in the banner, and then tap Members.

  10. In the banner, tap Add.

  3. Tap the Action menu, and then tap Group Settings.

  4. Modify the current data, and tap Update.

How do I assign or clear flags on an Android device?

To assign a flag:

  1. Open the Conversation.

  2. Long press the message you want to flag, and tap Add Flag.

  3. Tap the flag icon next to the name of the person you want to flag, and select For Your Information.

  4. Tap OK.

To clear a flag assigned to you:

  1. Open slide-out navigation, and tap the Flags icon.

  2. Long press the flag you want to clear, and tap Clear Flag.

To clear a flag assigned by you:

  1. Open slide-out navigation, and tap the Flags icon.

  2. On the right side of the banner, tap the Flagged icon and then tap Flagged by You to mark it.

  3. Long press the flag you want to clear, and tap Clear Flag.

How do I "like" messages on an Android device?

  1. Open the Conversation.

  2. Long press the message you want to like.

  3. Tap Like.

How do I change an Oracle Social Network password on an Android device?

If your company's password policy lets you change your password, you can do this in the web version of Oracle Social Network. You cannot change your password on mobile devices.

How do I set up notifications on an Android device?

You receive notifications for an account only when you are connected to that account.

  1. Open slide-out navigation, and tap the Settings icon.

  2. Tap Notifications.

  3. Tap to mark the check box next to Vibrate to make your phone vibrate when you receive a notification.

  4. Tap to mark the check box next to Phone LED to flash your phone's LED when you receive a notification.

  5. Tap to mark the checkbox next to Enable to prevent notifications from alerting you between the hours you select; then set a start and end time.

  6. Under Accounts, tap the name of the account you want to configure.

  7. Tap to mark the check box next to Your Wall to be notified when someone posts to your wall.

  8. Tap to mark the check box next to One-on-One to be notified when someone starts a One-on-One Conversation with you.

  9. Tap to mark the check box next to FYI to be notified when a flag is assigned to you.

  10. Tap your device's back button to navigate out of Settings.

How do I configure other OSN settings?

  1. Open slide-out navigation, and tap the Settings icon

    • Tap Text Size to adjust the size of the text.

    • Tap Unread Messages to show navigation for unread messages.

    • Tap Conversation Members to show the Conversation membership bar when viewing Conversations.

  3. Under Background Data:

    1. Tap Automatic Logout to set an automatic logout after a time you specify.

    2. Set the amount of time your session is inactive before you're automatically logged out.

  4. Tap User Tips to show user tips when you first visit a new area.

  5. Tap Oracle Social Network to read about Oracle Social Network, and view its legal notices, privacy policy, and help.

How do I add or edit an account connection on an Android device?

To add an account:

Once you have installed Oracle Social Network on your mobile device:

  1. Open slide-out navigation, and tap the Accounts icon.

  2. To add a new account, tap the New Account icon.

  3. In the User Name field, enter your Oracle Social Network user name.

  4. In the Password field, enter your Oracle Social Network password.

  5. Tap Save Password to make future connections automatically.

  6. In the Account Name field, enter a name for the new account.

  7. In the Server field, enter the path to the server that is hosting your Oracle Social Network instance.

    For example, enter:

    osn.mycompany.com/prod
    
  8. Tap Connect.

To edit an account:

  1. Open slide-out navigation, and tap the Accounts icon.

  2. Tap the check box of the account you want to edit to mark it, and then tap the Edit icon.

  3. Modify the current data.

  4. Tap Connect.

How do I switch from one account to another on an Android device?

  1. Open slide-out navigation, and tap the Accounts icon.

How do I remove an Oracle Social Network account from an Android device?
