Using Oracle Social Network on Your iPad

How do I start a Conversation on an iPad?

  1. On the sidebar menu, tap the Conversations icon.

  2. In the upper right corner of the Conversations window, tap the Add button.

  3. Enter a name for the new Conversation, and tap OK.

How do I edit Conversation settings on an iPad?

  1. Open the Conversation.

  2. Tap the Action button, and tap Settings.

    • Tap the Conversation Name field to make the Conversation public.

    • Tap the Visibility field to modify the privacy of the Conversation.

    • Tap the Status field to close or open the Conversation.

    • Tap the Membership Messages field to show or hide membership messages.

  3. To exit, tap Done.

How do I add or remove members from a Conversation on an iPad?

To add members:

  1. On the sidebar menu, tap the Conversations icon.

  3. Tap the Members icon.

  4. Tap the Add button.

  5. Tap the person or group you would like to add from your list of contacts or search, and tap Done.

  6. When you're done, tap outside the dialog box to close it.

To remove members:

  1. Open the Conversation.

  2. Tap the Members icon.

  3. Tap Edit.

  4. Tap the member you want to remove.

  5. Tap Delete.

Note: On the iPad, you cannot remove yourself from a Conversation.

How do I open a One-on-One Conversation on an iPad?

  1. On the sidebar menu, tap the People icon.

  2. In the top section of the People pane, tap a segment:

    • Recommendations

    • People You Follow

    • Your Followers

    • Contacts

  3. Tap the person you want to start a One-on-One Conversation with to open his or her profile.

    If the person is not on your list of contacts:

    1. On the sidebar menu, open Search.

    2. Enter the name, part of the name, or the email address of the person you want to start a One-on-One Conversation with.

    3. In the search results, tap the person's name.

  4. Tap the Open One-on-One button.

How do I mute or unmute a Conversation on an iPad?

To mute a Conversation:

  1. On the sidebar menu, tap the Conversations icon.

  2. Long press the Conversation you want to mute, and tap Mute.

To unmute a Conversation:

  1. On the sidebar menu, tap the Conversations icon.

  2. On the segment bar, tap Muted.

  3. Long press the Conversation you want to unmute, and tap Unmute.

How do I create, reply to, edit, or delete messages on an iPad?

To create a new post:

  1. Open the Conversation.

  2. Tap the Compose icon. iPad compose button

    • To post a message, enter your message, then tap Post.

    • To post a photo or video from your iPad, tap the camera icon, then tap Choose Photo or Video. Optionally, you can take a photo or video first, then upload it. Tap Done.

      If you want to crop or rotate your photo, tap on the photo thumbnail, then tap Edit.

      An editing screen opens.

      • Use the pinch gesture to make your photo bigger or smaller.

      • Tap the Crop button to crop your photo vertically. Tap again to crop your photo horizontally. crop button

      • Tap the Rotate button, to rotate your photo 90 degrees. Tap again to continue the rotation.

      When you finish editing, tap Save.

      Note: To upload more than one photo, tap multiple photos.

    • To add a reference to another Oracle Social Network item, such as a Conversation or wall, tap the Internal Reference button.

  3. Tap Post.

To reply to a message:

  1. Long press the message you want to reply to.

  2. Tap Reply.

  3. Enter the reply.

  4. Tap Post.

To edit a message:

You can edit only the messages you posted.

  1. Long press the message you want to edit.

  2. Tap Edit Message or Edit Reply.

  3. Revise the message.

  4. Tap Save.

To delete a message:

  1. Long press the message you want to delete.

  2. Tap Delete.

  3. Confirm you want to delete.

In a message, how do I add an internal reference to another Oracle Social Network item?

  1. Open the Conversation.

  2. Tap the Compose icon. iPad compose button

  4. Tap the Conversation, document, or Social Object you want to reference.

  5. Tap Post.

How do I add a referring item to a Conversation on an iPad?

To add an existing item:

  1. Open the Conversation.

  2. On the segment bar, tap Referring.

  3. Tap the plus sign icon.

  4. Tap the collection or Social Object you want to add.

  5. Tap OK.

To add a new item:

  1. Follow steps 1 through 3 above.

  2. Tap the Add Collection icon.

  4. Tap OK.

How do I mark messages as read on an iPad?

  1. Open the Conversation.

  2. To mark all messages as read, tap the button at the bottom of the Conversation, which shows the total number of unread messages.

  3. To mark a single message as read, tap the message. The blue unread indicator disappears.

Alternatively, long press the item in any list view and select Mark All Read.

How do I view my collections on an iPad

  1. On the sidebar menu, tap the Collections icon.

  2. On the segment bar, tap:

    • Yours to show the collections you created.

    • Available to show all the collections available to you.

    • Favorites to show the collections you have marked as favorite.

    • Muted to show the collections that you have muted.

How do I add a Conversation to a collection on an iPad?

  1. On the sidebar menu, tap the Collections icon. iPad collections icon

  2. Tap the collection to add a Conversation to.

  3. Tap the plus sign icon on the lower part of your screen.

  4. Tap a Conversation or wall to add it to the collection.

How do I add a related Conversation from a Social Object?

  1. Open the Social Object.

  2. On the segment bar, tap Related.

  3. Tap the Add Related icon. iPad add related icon

  4. Tap the Conversation, user wall, group wall, or Social Object you want to add.

Alternatively, you can create a new Conversation or collection.

  1. Tap the Add button.

  2. Tap New Collection to create a collection or New Conversation to create a Conversation.

  3. Enter a name.

  4. Tap Create.

How do I upload or download documents on an iPad?

To upload a document:

  1. Open the document in the application you want to upload from.

  2. Tap Open In...

  3. Tap Open in Social to open a selection list of upload destinations.

  4. You may choose to change the file name and/or add a description.

  5. Choose a destination for your document.

    • Tap Upload to your Wall if you want to post the document to your wall.

    • Tap Browse a Location... to choose another destination for your document.

    Optionally, you can choose a folder for your document.

  6. Tap Upload.

Note: iOS lists up to 10 applications in the Open In menu. If you have more than 10 applications that support a file type, Oracle Social Network may not appear in the menu. Unfortunately, there is no way to manage which applications appear in the menu. If you uninstall other applications, Oracle Social Network eventually appears.

To download a document:

  1. On the sidebar menu, tap the Documents icon.

  2. Long press the document you want to open, to open the Documents dialog.

  3. Tap View in Native Viewer to open the document in the application most suitable to the document type.

  4. Tap the native viewer's Action button, then select an application.

How do I view earlier versions of a document on an iPad?

Long press the document, and tap Versions.

How do I annotate a document on an iPad?

  1. Open the document.

  2. Tap the Annotations button.

  3. The annotations palette opens, which looks like this:

    • Tap the Pushpin tool, then tap the place you want the annotation to appear to open a text box. Enter a comment, and tap Save.

    • Tap the Pen tool and write or draw over an area of any size. Tap Edit to add a comment, or tap Discard to discard the drawing.

    • Tap the Highlighter tool and highlight one line of content. Tap Edit to add a comment, or tap Discard to discard the highlight.

    • Tap the Rectangle tool and draw a rectangle over an area of any size. A text box opens. Enter a comment, and tap Save.

    • Tap the Ellipse tool and draw a circle over an area of any size. A text box opens. Enter a comment, and tap Save.

  4. Add one or more annotations, then tap Publish to add them to the document and the Conversation.

To show and hide annotations:

  1. Open the annotated document.

  2. Tap the annotations filter.

  3. Tap All Annotations to show all the annotations on the document, No Annotations to hide all the annotations, or Unpublished Annotations to see the annotations that have not been published yet.

How do I create or remove a folder on an iPad?

  1. On the sidebar menu, tap the Conversations icon.

  2. Open the Conversation, and tap the Documents segment.

  3. Tap the Folders icon at the bottom of your screen.

  4. Enter a name for the new folder, and tap Create.

To remove a folder, tap the arrow at the side of the folder, and tap Delete.

How do I add or remove files from folders on an iPad?

You cannot move existing Oracle Social Network documents to a folder. You can, however, open a document (such as document attached to an email), and tap Open In. Tap Social, and then upload that document to a folder or to your wall.

To add a picture or video to a folder:

  1. Open the Conversation.

  2. On the segment bar, tap Documents.

  3. Tap the camera icon at the bottom right.

  4. Click Choose Photo or Video to upload something from your iPad, or click Take Photo or Video to create a new one.

  5. Tap the photo or video you want to upload.

  6. Tap Done.

  7. Tap Post.

To remove a file from a folder:

  1. Open the Conversation.

  2. On the segment bar, tap Documents.

  3. Tap the folder name.

  4. Long press the file you want to delete, then tap Delete.

How do I view and edit my profile and avatar on an iPad?

  1. On the bottom of your sidebar menu, tap your name.

  2. Tap Profile.

  3. Tap Edit.

  4. Tap any field to edit it.

  5. Tap Save.

Note: To add a new photo, tap your avatar, and tap Choose Photo or Take Photo. Move or scale your image and tap Crop.

How do I view or post to another person's wall on an iPad?

To view another person's profile:

  1. On the sidebar menu, tap the People icon.

  2. In the top section of the People pane, choose a segment: Recommendations, People You Follow, Your Followers, or Contacts.

  3. Tap the person whose profile you want to view to open his or her profile.

Note: Alternatively, tap inside any profile picture, wherever you see one, to open that person's profile.

To post to another person's wall:

  1. On the sidebar menu, tap the People icon.

  3. Tap the Wall segment.

  4. Tap the message box at the bottom, and enter your message. Optionally, add photo or video by tapping the camera icon.

  5. Tap Post to enter your message.

How do I post a status update to my wall on an iPad?

  1. On the sidebar menu, tap the Compose icon to the right of your name.

  3. To attach a file, tap the camera icon.

  4. Tap Post.

The update appears on your wall.

How do I view my contacts on an iPad?

  1. On the sidebar menu, tap the People icon.

How do I follow someone on an iPad?

  1. On the sidebar menu, tap the People icon.

  4. In the results list, tap the circle next to the person to follow, then tap Done.

Alternatively, tap the Recommendations button on People. Tap +Follow on the person to follow to add him or her to your contacts list.

To unfollow someone, open the person's profile and tap Unfollow.

How do I add Oracle Social Network contacts on an iPad?

  1. On the sidebar menu, tap the People icon.

  3. In the upper right corner of the People pane, tap the Add button.

  5. Tap the check box of the person to add as a contact.

How do I save an Oracle Social Network contact to my iPad contacts list?

  1. On the sidebar menu, tap the Groups icon.

  2. Tap the Add button.

  3. In the Group name field, enter a name for the new group.

  4. In the Group description field, enter a short description of the group.

  5. Tap Add Photo, to add a photo to your group profile.

  6. Tap Done.

    The new group opens.

  7. To add members, tap the plus sign.

  8. Tap the groups or members you want to add to the new group.

  9. Tap Add.

How do I add or remove members from a group on an iPad?

To add members:

  1. On the sidebar menu, tap the Groups icon.

  2. Open the group.

  3. On the segment bar, tap Members.

  4. Tap the Add button.

  6. Tap Done.

To remove members:

  1. Open the group.

  2. Tap Edit.

  3. Tap on red icon next to the member you want to remove.

  4. Tap Delete.

How do I assign or clear flags on an iPad?

To assign a flag:

  1. Open the Conversation.

  2. Long press the message you want to flag, then tap Manage flags.

  3. Tap the person you want to flag, and then tap For Your Information.

  4. Tap Save.

To clear a flag:

  1. On the sidebar menu, tap the Flags icon.

  2. Long press the flag you want to clear, then tap Clear My Flag.

To clear a flag assigned by you:

  1. On the sidebar menu, tap the Flags icon.

  2. In the upper right corner, tap the Filter button, then tap Assigned by You.

  3. Long press the item you want to clear, and tap Manage Flags.

  4. Tap the person whose flag you would like to clear, then tap the clear flag.

How do I "like" a message on an iPad?

  1. Open the Conversation.

  2. Long press the message you want to like.

  3. Tap Like.

How do I change an Oracle Social Network password on an iPad?

If your company's password policy lets you change your password, you can do this in the web version of Oracle Social Network. You cannot change your password on mobile devices.

How do I set up notifications on an iPad?

  1. Open your Accounts menu.

  3. Turn on Your Wall to receive a notification when a message is posted to your wall.

  4. Turn on One-on-One to receive a notification when someone starts a One-on-One Conversation with you.

  5. Turn on Flags to receive a notification when someone assigns a flag to you.

How do I change notification settings for a selected a Conversation or wall on an iPad?

To select your notification settings for a selected Conversation or wall:

  1. Open the Conversation.

  2. Tap the Action menu, and tap Settings.

    • Tap On to enable Oracle Social Network to send notifications for this Conversation.

    • Tap Off to disable notifications for this Conversation.

    • Tap Use Global Settings to use your global preferences, which are set in your notifications settings.

How do I set up account connections on an iPad?

Once you have installed Oracle Social Network on your iPad:

  1. Open the Accounts menu.

  2. In the User Name field, enter your Oracle Social Network user name.

  3. In the Password field, enter your Oracle Social Network password.

  4. Turn on Save Password to make future connections automatically.

  5. In the Account field, enter the name of your account.

  6. In the Server field, enter the path to the server that is hosting your Oracle Social Network instance.

    For example, enter:

    osn.mycompany.com/prod.
    

How do I create a new account on an iPad?

To create a new account:

  1. Open your Accounts menu.

  2. Tap Add Account, and enter the required data in the information fields.

  3. Tap Connect.

To edit an account:

  1. Open your Accounts menu.

  2. Tap the arrow next to the account you want to edit.

  3. Modify the current data.

  4. Tap Connect.
