What’s New for Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Service

As soon as new or updated features become available, Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Service instances are upgraded in the data centers where Oracle Cloud services are hosted. You don’t need to request an upgrade to be able to use the new features–they come to you automatically. To obtain the latest version of the Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Service client software, go to the Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Service client software downloads page (see below for more details). Here’s an overview of new features and enhancements added recently to improve Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Service.

Release 21.3.1 — July 2021

Feature Description

Java API Reference for Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Service Gateway

The Oracle® Cloud Java API Reference for Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Service Gateway client software library has been removed as the Java Gateway Software is deprecated and no longer available for download. In addition, all corresponding documentation in the existing user guides has been removed.

Feature Description

Support for Explorations

The explorations feature is deprecated now and will be removed in a future release.

Import and Export Applications

Importing and exporting IoT Applications from the Management Console is deprecated and will be removed in a future release. Use this feature at the Organization level within an IoT Application.

Feature Description

Java Gateway Software Deprecated

Oracle Internet of Things Java Gateway Software is deprecated and will no longer be supported or be available for download.

Support for Device Policies in the Oracle IoT Java Gateway Software

Device policies are supported by Java Gateway software, when enabled.

Feature Description

Mbed Client Software Library Deprecated

Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Service mbed client software library is now deprecated and will no longer be supported or be available for download.

Release 20.3.1 — July 2020

Feature Description

Support for Device Policies in Production Instances

The device policies feature which was in preview mode is now available in production server instances. You can create and enable device policies from the platform UI.

Device policies are supported by Java Client Library and Android Client Library, when enabled.

Device policies can also be used with the Oracle IoT OPC UA Gateway software, which is used to integrate an IoT application with an OPC UA Server.

MQTT Server Connector

You can now create and use an MQTT server connector to directly receive telemetry from MQTT devices.

Feature Description

Connector Support for Multiple JSON Payloads in a Single Message

The connector can now handle multiple JSON payloads in a single POST request. The connector grammar dialog supports compound payloads through pre-defined mapping keys.

You do not need to make any modifications to the interpreter configuration.

  • Removal of the methods and properties related to the time to live of storage objects.

  • Removal of the methods and parameters related to the immutability of storage objects.

  • Removal of the properties related to Write Once Read Many (WORM).

Feature Description

Connectors

Connectors let you directly connect devices and services to Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Service without using the Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Service Client Software Libraries. Connectors and interpreters created in Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Service let you connect devices that use a non-IP protocol such as LoRa or devices that are part of a third party cloud service.

Currently, Connectors are limited to development environments for testing. Connectors functionality will be available in production environments in a future release.

User Management

The new Users dashboard lets you create and manage user accounts.
