SMS code permissions

Important: This feature is only available if your organization has purchased SMS services. Please contact your account manager for additional information and pricing.

You can use SMS code permissions to manage access to SMS codes. You can manage access to SMS codes using the following:

  • Manage default access controls using security groups. Learn more.

  • Manage individual code access by updating the SMS code itself. Learn more.

There are two types of permissions available for SMS codes:

Permission Description
View

Controls the visibility and use of the code. Users must have the view permission to create an SMS using the code, use the code's SMS messages in a campaign, and manage keywords and invalid response message for the code.

Security Allows setting access to a code, as well as granting this access to other security groups and users.

Setting the default SMS code access permissions

You can manage the default access to SMS codes using security groups. By default, whenever a new code is created, members of the security group are given the defined access permissions to the code.

By default, security groups are setup with the following permissions:

  • View: Customer Administrator, Advanced Users-Marketing, Basic Users-Marketing

  • Security: Customer Administrator

Good to know:

  • Unlike other default asset permissions, SMS code permissions can only be setup for security groups, not individual users. SMS codes are not created by users and aren't an asset type you can manage with Asset Creation controls for the security group.

  • You can only setup default SMS code permissions for the security group at a time.
  • You cannot grant individual users default SMS code permissions. The permissions are for the security group.

To set the default SMS code access permissions:

  1. Click SettingsAn image of the Settings menu icon, which is represented by a black cog..
  2. Click Users in the Users and Security area.
  3. Click the Groups tab and then use the Quick Search to search for the security group you want to change.
  4. Click the security group to open the security group settings.
  5. Click Default Asset Permissions and then click Edit.
  6. On the left, click SMS Codes. If there is a long list of asset types, then you may need to scroll down the page to select that asset type, then scroll back up to configure the table of permissions.

  7. Choose the permissions for this security group. The SMS code permissions are only for this security group. If you want to add code permissions to other security groups, repeat the steps for each group.
  8. Click Save.

Setting permissions for an SMS code

When an SMS code is introduced to your instance, the default permissions defined by the user's security group settings are applied to it. If the user is a member of multiple security groups, the cumulative permissions are applied to the SMS code.

You can customize the permissions for an individual SMS code, similar to how you can manage permissions for other Oracle Eloqua assets.

Note: For SMS customers before the Oracle Eloqua 23C release (August 2023), View permission was granted for existing codes to the Customer Administrator security group and all security groups that had interface access to either SMS or SMS Setup. Security permission was granted to the Customer Administrator security group.

To change the permissions for an SMS code:

  1. Navigate to AssetsAn image of the Assets icon, which is represented by a black pencil..
  2. Click SMS SetupView Codes.
  3. Click the code you want to update and then click Permissions. You must have the Security permission to access this page.

  4. Click Save.
