Deinstalling Oracle Products

The deinstall process

You use Oracle Universal Installer or Oracle Installer (collectively known as "Installer") to deinstall Personal Express or any of its components. You should not attempt to deinstall by simply deleting directories. When deinstalling, Installer performs several steps. For example, Installer takes the following actions:

Note: When deinstalling Personal Express, Installer does not delete the installation directory. Moreover, if any files have been created in esextend or estemp, they are not removed and the subdirectories remain. In general, any user-created files and the subdirectories that contain them remain.

The version of the Installer that you use to deinstall Oracle products depends on the version of the Installer that you used to install the product originally:

Procedure: Deinstalling using Oracle Installer

To deinstall the Personal Express 6.2 or any other Oracle product that was installed using Oracle Installer, use the following procedure:

  1. Stop the product that you are going to deinstall. To stop Personal Express, follow the instructions in "How to Start, Stop, and Pause Personal Express".

  2. Start Oracle Installer (orainst).

  3. In the Software Asset Manager, select the products that you wish to deinstall and choose Remove.

Procedure: Deinstalling using Oracle Universal Installer

To deinstall Personal Express 6.3 or any other Oracle product that was originally installed using Oracle Universal Installer, use the following procedure:

  1. Stop the product that you are going to deinstall. To stop Personal Express, follow the instructions in "How to Start, Stop, and Pause Personal Express".

  2. Start Oracle Universal Installer (setup).

  3. On the Welcome page, choose Deinstall Products.

  4. When prompted, select the Oracle home that contains the product that you want to deinstall.

  5. Select the components that you want to remove from the list of products already installed, and then choose Remove.

  6. When Oracle Universal Installer prompts you to confirm that you want to deinstall the listed products, review the list, and then choose Yes.

  7. Once the deinstallation process is complete, choose Exit to close Oracle Universal Installer.
