interMedia Text

This chapter describes how to install and run interMedia Text and the restrictions of this option on BS2000/OSD.

Installing interMedia Text

When you follow the procedures explained in chapter 4 about creating an Oracle8i Release 3 database the result is not already interMedia Text enabled.

There are some additional steps to be executed. For simplicity we don't show a general procedure, but an example to be adapted to your own requirements. For more information see Oracle8i interMedia Text Reference.

  1. First create rollback segments and tablespaces for interMedia Text

    /start-program $ORACL817.svrmgrl
    connect internal
    set echo on
    spool intermedia-setup.log
    create rollback segment rollback2;
    create tablespace drsys datafile 'tablespace-intermedia-data' size 500M;
    create tablespace drtmp datafile 'tablespace-intermedia-temp' size 10M;
    create rollback segment rollback3 tablespace drsys storage
    (initial 100K next 100K); create rollback segment rollback4 tablespace drsys storage
    (initial 100K next 100K);
    exit
  2. Then shutdown your database and update the init.ora file

    COMPATIBLE=8.1.0.0.0
    ROLLBACK_SEGMENTS=(SYSTEM,ROLLBACK3,ROLLBACK4)
  3. Startup the instance again and start SQL*Plus. To avoid being prompted for many overflow acknowledgements on your screen set oflow=no:

    /tchng oflow=no
    /start-program $ORACL817.sqlplus
    connect sys/change_on_install as sysdba
    @$ORACL817.ctx.admin.dr0dsys;
    @$ORACL817.ctx.admin.dr0csys;

    This script will prompt you for 3 parameters.
    Enter:

    ctxsys   (interMedia Text system administrator)
    drsys (interMedia Text tablespace)
    drtmp (interMedia Text temporary tablespace)
    connect CTXSYS/CTXSYS
    @$ORACL817.ctx.admin.dr0inst;

    This script will prompt you for 1 parameter.
    Enter:

    $ORACL817.ctxx8.modlib (interMedia Text External Procedure software)

    @$ORACL817.ctx.admin.drdefus;

    ... when you are working with US english texts, otherwise take the drdef*.sql script according to your preferred language, set the attribute (see restrictions below) and run the script.

    exit

Starting interMedia Text utilities

Two utilities are available whithin the interMedia Text option:

For more information about their functions and parameters see Oracle8i interMedia Text Reference.

We give two examples how to start these programs:

/start-program $ORACL817.ctxsrv
(when prompted with * enter, for example:) *-user ctxsys/ctxsys -log ctx.log

(Note: When you start ctxsrv in a dialog task, it will block this screen (it is a daemon). Therefore you may decide to start it as a batch job.)

/start-program $ORACL817.ctxldr
(when prompted with * enter, for example:) *-user scott/tiger -export -name myindex -file myfile -pk 1

Restrictions of interMedia Text on BS2000/OSD

Due to ASCII-EBCDIC and other dependencies following restrictions are inherent:
