A
ODBC and OCI Demos

Although client applications will continue to function after failover in an Oracle Fail Safe environment, each application will have to reconnect unless you design and code your applications to use transparent failover. You can design applications to automatically reconnect to the failover node after a failover occurs. Client applications that use Oracle8 or later OCI libraries can use transparent application failover techniques to automatically reconnect to an OCI or ODBC database and resume processing after a cluster failover.

Note:

The transparent application failover feature is supported for Oracle database server Enterprise Edition only.

The TAFDemoGUI.exe executable program included with your Oracle Fail Safe software demonstrates automated failover for OCI or ODBC programs. The program includes a readme.txt file that provides instructions for running the OCI and ODBC demos and updating the tnsnames.ora file.

In the demonstration, you will start to run a query against an Oracle (OCI or ODBC) Enterprise Edition database and then (using Oracle Fail Safe Manager) move the group that contains the database while the query is running. You can see the momentary disruption of the query while the application reconnects to a new node and replays the SELECT statements.

The demonstration program and readme.txt instruction file are located in the Oracle home where you installed Oracle Fail Safe, as follows:
