3 Application Usage Information

This topic describes the information that Advanced Management Console stores for applications that are run in the enterprise.

View the Application Information

When enabled, Java Usage Tracker sends the information that it collects to the AMC Collector in a User Datagram Protocol (UDP) packet. This information is shown in the Apps view in the AMC UI.

To view the information that has been collected, start the AMC UI. See Start and Stop the AMC UI.

From the Home view, click either Apps or View Java usage across your enterprise to show the Apps view. Table 3-1 describes the information that is shown for each application.

Data Description

ID

Internal identifier used by Advanced Management Console.

URL

Location of the web page or JNLP file that was used to start an application.

Title

Title of the application, if available.

Vendor

Name of the vendor that provided the application, if available.

Description

Description of the application, if available.

Code base

Base URL of the applet, which is the directory that contains the classes for the application.

Java version

Version of the JRE that was used to run the application.

Security

Level of permissions with which the application ran, for example, Sandbox or All permissions.

Type

Type of application, for example, applet.

JARs

Number of JAR files that are included with the application.

Extensions

Number of extensions that are used by the application.

Runs

Number of times that the application has been run.


Configure the Apps View

By default, all of the information described in Table 3-1 is shown in the Apps table. You can configure this view to show only the information that you want to see.

The right-most column heading is a plus sign (+). Click the plus sign to show a list of the column headings. Headings that are currently shown in the table are identified with a check mark. Headings without a check mark are not currently shown in the table. To hide a column that is currently shown, or show a column that is currently hidden, click the heading in the list.

Rearrange columns by dragging the column heading to a different location. To change the size of the column, click the separator after the column heading and drag it to the desired size.

Inspect Application Details

More details about an application are available. To view this information, select an application in the Apps table and click Inspect. The Application Details window is shown with the information described in Table 3-2.

Data Description

URL

Location of the web page or JNLP file that was used to start an application.

Title

Title of the application, if available.

Vendor

Name of the vendor that provided the application, if available.

Description

Description of the application, of available.

Code

Main class used to launch the application.

Security

Level of permissions with which the application ran, for example, Sandbox or All permissions.

JAR List

Information about each JAR included with the application:

  • Name of the JAR file

  • Trust level for the JAR, for example, signed or unsigned.

  • Information about the signer of the JAR, if signed.

  • Hash value for the JAR

JNLP Extensions

Information about the extensions that are used:

  • Name of the extension.

  • URL from which the extension is loaded.

Click the title to expand the information for this field.

JRE version and run count

Number of times the application was run, and the number of unique devices on which the application was run. This information is shown for each JRE that was used to run the application.

Search for Applications

A search field is available to help you find the information for specific applications. Enter a search term in the search field. The view is automatically updated to show you the applications that match the term.

You can choose the columns in the Apps table that you want included in the search. Click filter to show the list of columns. Columns that are currently searched are identified with a check mark. Columns without a check mark are not currently searched. To exclude a column that is currently included, or include a column that is currently excluded, click the heading in the list.

Tip:

You can search on a column even if that column is hidden in the Apps view. If you see unexpected results, it is possible that the search term matched information in a column that is hidden.
