Zoom in and out of metrics data in a chart

You can zoom in to the data shown in a chart's viewport to decrease the time span that is displayed, and you can zoom out to increase the time span. By default, zooming in or out of metrics data is done in increments of 20% of the time interval that is shown. For example, if the chart displays metric values over a 5 minute interval, choosing Zoom In decreases that time interval to 4 minutes. You can change the zoom increment percentage in the Dashboard Preferences dialog box, as explained in Set dashboard preferences.

Zoom in and out as follows:

To zoom in on the X-axis, either:
- Click the Zoom In button beneath the chart, which is available by default from the selected chart.
- Select the chart menu and click Zoom In.
- Shift-drag over an area of the chart. That is, press and hold the Shift key, and then drag the mouse pointer over the area of the chart into which you want to zoom. (You must release the mouse button before you release the Shift key.)
Note: When you click Zoom In, you zoom in to a percentage-displayed time interval. The default is 20%.
To zoom out of the X-axis, either:
- Click the Zoom Out button beneath the chart, which is available by default from the selected chart.
- Select the chart menu and click Zoom Out.
To reset the time interval shown in the chart to its state before it was zoomed, Select the chart menu and click Reset Chart Viewport. Resetting the zoom state resets the interval back to the default interval, or the one configured in Dashboard Preferences, starting at the start time which was in effect before zooming.
