22 WebLogic Server OTD Runtimes

This chapter describes the tasks you can perform to register and monitor Oracle Traffic Director (OTD) runtime configurations. OTD can distribute incoming client requests to a Oracle WebLogic Server Multitenant (MT) deployment topology for a large enterprise, providing an integrated, end-to-end administration experience for the server life cycle and domain partition management.

For more information on using OTD for load balancing, see "Configuring Oracle Traffic Director" in Using WebLogic Server MT for the steps to follow.

Note:

If you are logged into a domain partition, navigate from the Domain Partition menu.

This chapter includes the following sections:

Register an OTD runtime

You must register an OTD runtime before you can use it in a domain partition.

To register a new OTD runtime configuration:

  1. Create the OTD runtime. You use the OTD Administration Server for this task.

See "Configuring Oracle Traffic Director" in Using WebLogic Server MT for the steps to follow.

  2. From the WebLogic Domain menu, select Environment, then select OTD Runtimes.

The OTD Runtimes table displays information about each runtime that has been configured in the current domain:

    • Name

    • OTD Configuration Name

      Admin Server Host

      Admin Server Port

      Username

      OTD Domain Name

  3. Click Register Runtime.
  4. On the Register Runtime page, define the configuration settings for the runtime:
    • Runtime Name: enter a name of your choice for the new runtime.

    • OTD Configuration Name: enter the name of the existing OTD configuration you want to register. This is the exact name you specified when you created the OTD configuration in the OTD Administration Server.

    • Admin Server Host: enter the host name of the OTD Administration Server.

    • Admin Server Port: enter the port name of the OTD Administration Server. For example, 8001.

    • Username: enter the user name of the OTD Administration Server Administrator. For example, weblogic.

    • Password: enter the password of the OTD Administration Server Administrator.

    • OTD Domain Name: enter the domain name of the of the OTD instance. For example, otd_domain.

  5. Click OK.

For more information about these fields, see Configuration Options.

Associate OTD runtime with domain partition

To associate an OTD runtime with a domain partition:

  1. Create the OTD runtime. You use the OTD Administration Server for this task.

See "Configuring Oracle Traffic Director" in Using WebLogic Server MT for the steps to follow.

  2. Register the OTD runtime, as described in Register an OTD runtime.
  3. From the WebLogic Domain menu, select Environment, then select Domain Partitions.

The Domain Partitions table displays information about each partition that has been configured in the current domain:

  4. Select the domain partition for which you want to configure the OTD runtime.
  5. From the Domain Partition menu, select Administration, then select Load Balancer Configuration.
  6. Set the Use OTD for Load Balancing control.
  7. Select the OTD runtime you registered from the OTD Runtime menu.
  8. Click Save.

For more information about these fields, see Configuration Options.

Monitor an OTD Runtime

To monitor an OTD runtime for a domain partition:

  1. From the WebLogic Domain menu, select Environment, then select Domain Partitions.

The Domain Partitions table displays information about each partition that has been configured in the current domain.

If a partition is associated with OTD, then the OTD partition name is displayed in the partitions table.

  2. Select the domain partition for which you want to monitor the OTD runtime.
  3. From the Domain Partition menu, select Administration, then select Load Balancer Configuration.
  4. If the Use OTD for Load Balancing control is set, then the OTD Runtime menu identifies the name of the runtime currently in use by the domain partition.

Configure an OTD runtime

You cannot change an existing OTD runtime. To make changes you must create a new OTD runtime with the required changes, and optionally delete the existing OTD runtime.

To configure a new OTD runtime configuration:

  3. Click Register New Runtime.

  5. Click OK.
  6. From the WebLogic Domain menu, select Environment, then select Domain Partitions.

The Domain Partitions table displays information about each partition that has been configured in the current domain:

  7. Select the domain partition for which you want to configure the OTD runtime.
  8. From the Domain Partition menu, select Administration, then select Load Balancer Configuration.
  9. Set the Use OTD for Load Balancing control.
  10. Select the OTD runtime you just registered from the OTD Runtime menu.
  11. Click Save.
  12. From the WebLogic Domain menu, select Environment, then select OTD Runtimes.

The OTD Runtimes table displays information about each runtime that has been configured in the current domain.

  13. Optionally, click next to an OTD runtime and click Delete.
