Assign server instances to clusters

Before you begin

Create a cluster and any Managed Servers you want to add to a cluster. For information on creating a cluster, see Create a cluster. For information on creating Managed Servers, see Create Managed Servers.

To assign server instances to a cluster:

  1. If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit (see Use the Change Center).
  2. In the left pane of the Console, select Environment > Clusters.

The Summary of Clusters table displays all the clusters defined in the domain.

  3. In the Clusters table, select the cluster to which you want to assign server instances.
  4. Select Configuration > Servers.
  5. In the Servers table, click Add.
  6. To add an existing server instance to a cluster:
    1. Select the Select an existing server and add it as a member of this cluster option.
    2. Select a server instance from the drop-down list.

Note: You cannot change the cluster of the Administration Server using the Administration Console. You cannot change the cluster or machine of a running server.

    3. Click Finish.
  7. To create a new server as part of a cluster:
    1. Select the Create a new server and add it to this cluster option.
    2. Click Next.
    3. Provide the following information:
      • Server Name
      • Server Listen Address
      • Server Listen Port
    4. Click Finish.

The new server instance appears in the Servers table and is added as a member of the current cluster.

  8. To activate these changes, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Activate Changes.
Not all changes take effect immediately—some require a restart (see Use the Change Center).
