Enable partition auto-restart

Before you begin

Create a Resource Consumption Manager

Many times an application misbehaves temporarily and a simple restart will suffice to correct the situation. Intervention by a system administrator would be required, but less desirable than enabling the partition auto-restart action. The restart trigger action restarts the partition on the server instance on which the partition's resource consumption quotas have been breached. For more information, see Triggers.

To create a restart trigger:

  1. If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit (see Use the Change Center).
  2. In the Domain Structure tree, expand Environment, then select Resource Management.
  3. On the Summary of Resource Managers page, select the resource manager for which you want to create a restart trigger.
  4. On the Policies page, click New on the Triggers table.
  5. Select the resource type for which you want to create a restart trigger.
  6. Click Next.
  7. On the Trigger Properties page, enter the properties for your new trigger.
    1. Trigger Name: Enter a name to identify this trigger.
    2. Value: The amount of resource allocated for a trigger.
    3. Action: From the menu, select restart.
  8. Click Finish.
  9. To activate these changes, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Activate Changes.
Not all changes take effect immediately—some require a restart (see Use the Change Center).

After you finish

It is recommended that you enable Restart Loop Protection, which is available on the Resource Manager configuration page, to prevent a partition from restarting in a loop. See Configure restart loop protection.
