Configure and Manage Performance Metrics for Your Workstations

Supervisors and operators work together on the shop floor to meet production goals related to quality, delivery, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). Supervisors and operators can monitor their shift's progress using metrics or Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) based on the organization’s processes and standards. Tracking metrics and KPIs helps proactively address issues and deviations, ensuring production continuity.

With this update, manufacturers can use the Redwood user experience to configure performance metrics and workstation status reason codes, as part of the manufacturing setup. Reason codes let you track, record, and analyze workstation availability and performance-related losses, optimizing OEE.

You can perform the following setup actions:

  • Edit and manage performance metrics at the plant level, so that production supervisors can use these for monitoring their workstations and work centers.
  • Set benchmarks and accepted deviation levels for the performance metrics.
  • Set reporting Unit of Measure (UOM) for the performance metrics.
  • Define reason codes and assign loss factors, such as availability and performance, for each reason code. The reason codes are used when the workstation status changes between Idle, In-Use, and Down. For example, a workstation may be down for preventive maintenance leading to an availability loss.

Configuration Parameters:

Performance Loss Threshold in Minutes specifies the threshold duration in minutes below which all workstation stops without a reason code are counted as minor stops, and therefore a performance loss. A stop duration greater than this threshold value automatically counts as an availability loss if a reason code is not specified.

The parameter UOM for Quantity Metrics specifies the common unit of measure (UOM) to use when work order products have different UOMs.

The parameter Operator Assignment controls operator check-ins at workstations:

  • Not enforced: Any operator can check in to any workstation.
  • Enforced: Only operators assigned to a workstation by the production supervisor can check in to the workstation.

The parameter Work Order Operation Assignment controls work order operation assignments at workstations:

  • Not enforced: Operators can scan any eligible work order operation.
  • Enforced: Operators can execute only those work order operations that are assigned to the workstation by the production supervisor.
  • Enforced with sequence: Operators can execute only work order operations assigned to the workstation in the sequence specified by the production supervisor.

Metrics:

The Metrics setup establishes benchmark targets for metrics, such as Plan Adherence, OEE, Availability, Performance, and Quality in the manufacturing plant. The default value is 100%.

Workstation Reason Codes:

Workstation reason codes help record activities that result in workstation status changes. Each reason code is associated with a workstation status and potential loss, such as availability loss or performance loss. For example, a workstation may be down for preventive maintenance activity leading to an availability loss.

When an operator selects a workstation reason code, the workstation status is accordingly set. The stop duration is accounted correctly in OEE calculations, as Availability Loss, Performance Loss, Not a Loss, or Break.

The ability to capture reason codes at a granular level also helps in detailed analyses of where the losses are occurring. Customers can gain insights into focus areas for improving OEE.

Manufacturers can configure settings that support visualization of metrics and operation management for workstation execution and production supervision.

Manufacturers get real-time visibility into key performance metrics for the shop floor.

Steps to Enable

Use the Opt In UI to enable this feature. For instructions, refer to the Optional Uptake of New Features section of this document.

Offering: Manufacturing and Supply Chain Materials ManagementNo Longer Optional From: Update 25C

This feature Configure and Manage Performance Metrics for Your Workstations is a child feature of Monitor Workstation Performance When Supervising Production feature.

The Opt-in for Configure and Manage Performance Metrics for Your Workstations is based on the parent feature Monitor Workstation Performance When Supervising Production. The parent feature has an Opt-in: When the parent feature is enabled, the child feature also gets enabled.
