Viewing Item Cost History Information
If you are using average costing and are using the new cost processor, you are able to examine your item costs to determine how and why they have changed. See: Inventory and Manufacturing Costing Compared.
The following windows can be used to assist you in this process:
- Item Costs for Cost Groups: Displays total item costs and their elemental cost components (Material, Material Overhead, Resource, Overhead, and Outside Processing) by Cost Group.
- Item Cost Details for Cost Groups: Displays the this level, previous level, and current unit costs for an item within a cost group by cost element.
- Item Cost History: Displays the transactions, including quantities and transaction costs, that have contributed to the new (current) cost of an item. You can also view the quantity and cost of an item just prior to the current transaction.
- Cost Elements: Displays by cost element the new, prior, or transaction cost of an item.
To view item costs:
2. Enter search criteria in the Find Item Costs for Cost Groups window.
You can search for all items within a cost group or for an item across cost groups.
3. Choose the Find button. The results display in the Item Costs for Cost Groups window.
To view cost details for an item in a specific cost group:
1. Select one of the item records displayed in the Item Costs for Cost Groups window.
2. Choose the Cost Details button. The Item Cost Details for Cost Groups window appears.
You can view any elemental costs defined for the item at this and the previous level. You can also view each cost element's percentage contribution to the total cost.
To view the cost history of an item:
1. Navigate back to the Item Costs for Cost Groups window.
2. Select one of the item records displayed.
3. Choose the Cost History button. The Find Item Cost History window appears.
4. Enter your search criteria.
To restrict the search to a range of dates, select a From and To Date. To further restrict the search you can choose the Only Transactions Which Change the Cost option.
5. Choose the Find button.
The transactions that meet the search criteria are displayed in the Item Cost History window.
To view prior, transaction, or new (current) elemental costs for an item:
1. Select a transaction record in the Item Cost History window.
2. Choose the Cost Elements button. The Pick Cost Element window appears.
3. In the Pick Cost Element window, select one of the following options:
Prior Cost Elements: Display the elemental cost of the selected item prior to the last transaction.
Transaction Cost Elements: Display the elemental transaction costs for the item.
New Cost Elements: Display the new elemental costs for the item after the transaction.
4. Choose the OK button. The Elemental Cost window appears and displays the Prior, Transaction, or New Cost Element values depending on your selection.
