Distributed Transactions

This chapter discusses the Oracle JDBC implementation of distributed transactions. These are multi-phased transactions, often using multiple databases, that must be committed in a coordinated way. There is also related discussion of XA, which is a general standard (not specific to Java) for distributed transactions.

  Note: This chapter discusses features of the JDBC 2.0 Optional Package, formerly known as the JDBC 2.0 Standard Extension API, which is available through the javax packages from Sun Microsystems. The Optional Package not part of the standard JDK, but relevant packages are included with the Oracle JDBC classes111.zip and classes12.zip files.
