This illustration shows the n-tier architecture and where Real Application Clusters fits within this architecture.

A client brower connects to a web server which has an LDAP server attached to it. The web server then connects to an application server. The application server contains e-commerce applications. The application server then connects to Real Application Clusters which finally connects to the Oracle database. Real Application Clusters software acts at the primary database interface for the client browser and web and application servers.
