This graphic shows the relationship between the Object Caching Service for Java (OCS4J) cache, and other components in the Oracle9i Application Server, and the source for data that is loaded into OCS4J.

The components include the following:

1. The Internet, where connections are made to the system and where data is sent from the system.
2. The Web Cache, this is the first system that an Internet connection would reach, and it provides content saved on the Web Cache system.
3. The Web Server, or Web Servers take requests from the Web Cache and feed information back to the Web Cache.
4. The Servlet Engine, that runs within the middle tier. The Servlet Engine runs the Object Caching Service for Java. There may be one or more Servlet Engines running in the middle tier.
5. Data is loaded into the OCS4J from one of three sources: Oracle iCache, Oracle Database Server, or from some other external data source.
