15 Extract Business Intelligence

Julie returns from her trip and would like to know how well she is managing her budget. Julie’s portal contains a budget-watch summary portlet and links to detailed reports. However, she also wants to analyze purchases from previous years, so she launches Oracle Application Server Discoverer and opens the Purchasing Analysis workbook. As she drills down through the past five years of reports, Julie notices an anomaly - costs were much higher until 1998, but dropped dramatically in 1999. Why? She find that the cost of Windows products was zero in 1999, and remembers that the whole company switched to the Linux operating system then.
