During installation and configuration of the Oracle9i database server, it is recommended that you select the database character set UTF-8. You can choose another character set, however, it you do this, be sure that the database character set and the directory data are compatible. For example, you cannot choose the Japanese database character set to store Traditional Chinese directory data.
