This figure shows the overall scenario of the Oracle Application Server Cold Failover Cluster (Infrastructure) Windows high availability solution under normal operation, that is, before any failures. The text in the book describes the components making up the solution. The cluster consists of two nodes of which only one is active at any point in time. The cluster is represented by a virtual hostname and virtual IP that OracleAS middle-tier components use to access the Infrastructure. When a failover occurs, the virtual hostname and IP are moved to the standby node, which becomes the active node.
