This figure shows two nodes in a hardware cluster. Node 1 is the active node, and node 2 is the standby node. The active node runs all the Oracle Identity Management components (Oracle Internet Directory, OracleAS Single Sign-On, Oracle Delegated Administration Services, Oracle Directory Integration and Provisioning, OracleAS Certificate Authority, and Oracle HTTP Server). Both nodes can access the shared storage that contains the Oracle home for Oracle Identity Management, but only one node can mount the shared storage at any time.

Clients access the active node through a virtual hostname, which is associated with a virtual IP address.

On failover, the virtual hostname points to the standby node, which mounts the shared storage and runs the Oracle Identity Management components.

If you are running on Microsoft Windows, both nodes need to be running Microsoft Cluster Server and Oracle Fail Safe as well.
