This figure shows two nodes in a hardware cluster. Node 1 is the active node, and node 2 is the standby node. Both nodes can access the shared storage that contains the Oracle home for the OracleAS Single Sign-On and Oracle Delegated Administration Services components, but only one node can mount the shared storage at any time. Clients access the active node by sending requests to a virtual hostname.

During normal runtime, node 1 mounts the shared storage and runs the OracleAS Single Sign-On and Oracle Delegated Administration Services components. The virtual hostname points to node 1.

During failover, node 2 mounts the shared storage and runs the components. The virtual hostname changes to point to node 2.

If you are running on Microsoft Windows, both nodes need to be running Microsoft Cluster Server and Oracle Fail Safe as well.
