Generating a query in the OLAP QueryBuilder

You use the OLAP QueryBuilder to formulate or edit a query. The query can target the data that is associated with any measures.

To generate a query:

  1. On the Items panel, select the measures to include in the query.

    With the measures, you can specify any of the measures' dimensions to use for creating a view of the measures' data. The query uses a default selection for any unspecified dimensions. You can also select a hierarchy to use with the dimension.

    To select a dimension or hierarchy, click its name and use the shuttle buttons to copy the item from the Available box to the Selected box

    Use the Automatically Add/Remove Dimensions box to specify whether the dimensions that are associated with a particular measure are automatically added to the Selected box with that measure.

  2. On the Dimensions panel, select members of the dimensions that you specified on the Items panel, using the Members, Conditions, or Saved Selections panels. The query returns data that corresponds to the selected dimension members.

  3. Choose Apply, OK, or Finish as appropriate to generate the query and view its result.
