Object Navigator

The Object Navigator provides a hierarchical display of all major objects in a report or template, including attached libraries and external queries. Using this view, you can perform actions as select an object, display PL/SQL, drag and drop PL/SQL program units, and search for an object by name.

Components

The Object Navigator displays the object you have open in Reports Builder and their components:

Document list

At the top of the Object Navigator is a list of all of the currently open modules in the Navigator, and the most recently selected node and its ancestors. By selecting a name from the list, you can immediately select its node in the Navigator.

Find

Enables you to enter a target string for a node search:

the Search Forward button Search Forward finds the next node whose name matches the search string in Find. It will search and expand collapsed nodes.

the Search Backward button Search Backward finds the previous node whose name matches the search string in Find. It will search collapsed nodes.

Toolbar

To use the tools in the toolbar, click to select one or more objects in the outline view, then click the desired tool.   The action represented by that tool will be performed on the selected objects.

Object Tree

Reports

Reports currently open in the Reports Builder.   Each report node contains node for its views and objects.   To display a Report Editor view (for example, Data Model view, Paper Layout view, Parameter Form view), double-click the view icon. To display the properties for an object, double-click the properties icon to the left of its name.

Templates

Templates currently open in Reports Builder.

PL/SQL Libraries

Libraries of reusable PL/SQL code.

Debug Actions

An asterisk next to a debug action indicates a disabled status. If there is no asterisk next to a debug action, the action is active.

Stack

Shows the call stack frames for a suspended program unit in the PL/SQL Interpreter.   You can double-click the node for the program unit whose variables you wish to examine or modify.

Built-in Packages

The built-in packages that contain procedures that augment or automate reports.

Database Objects

Shows the schema for the database to which you are connected.   You can use this node to copy program units between client and server.

Nodes

Each object or object type in your current session, from each open report or template, to the objects in each report, is represented in the Object Navigator by a node.

Each node in the Object Navigator consists of some or all of the following:

Views

The Object Navigator enables you to view objects by ownership hierarchy or by object type:
