Ruler Settings dialog box

The Ruler Settings dialog box defines preferences for the appearance of rulers in the Report Editor.

This dialog box contains:

Grid Spacing

Specifies the interval at which grid lines are to appear for each ruler unit.

0.25

Specifies a grid line for each quarter of a ruler unit, that is, four grid lines per ruler unit.

0.5

Specifies a grid line for each half of a ruler unit, that is, two grid lines per ruler unit.

1

Is a printer's  Specifies one grid line for each unit of measurement, that is, one grid line for each ruler unit.

2

Specifies one grid line for each two units of measurement, that is, one grid line for each two ruler units.

5

Specifies one grid line for each five units of measurement, that is, one grid line for each five ruler units.

Other

Specifies one grid line for each x units of measurement, where x is a number that you enter in the field next to Other.

Horizontal

Specifies the size of a character cell unit, in points. Type any positive, whole number.

Note:  Points are a printer's type size that makes up a pica.  Each pica contains twelve points and is equivalent to one-sixth of an inch.  (A point is 1/72 of an inch.)

Number of Snap Points Per Grid Spacing

Specifies how many snap points you want for each grid line.  Snap points are used by the editor to place objects when you have Grid Snap in the View menu checked.  The more snap points there are per grid point the finer the control you have over the placement of objects.

Note:  Suppose Unit is Inch, Grid Spacing is 1 and Number of Snap Points Per Grid Spacing is 1.  When you move or create any objects, they are placed to the nearest inch.  If you change Number of Snap Points Per Grid Spacing to 2, objects are placed to the nearest half-inch.

Units

Specifies which unit of measurement is used for the rulers in the current view.

Character Cells

Is a printer's  Specifies the units equivalent to the size of one character (the size of a character is set in Horizontal and Vertical)

Inches

 

Points

Specifies a printer's type size that makes up a pica.  Each pica contains twelve points and is equivalent to one-sixth of an inch.  (A point is 1/72 of an inch.)

Vertical

Specifies the size of a character cell unit, in points.  Type any positive, whole number.
