Creating an unmatched relationship (Query Builder)

Use this feature if you want to display data where one table has no values entered, such as orders with no line items, customers who have not made orders, sales representatives who do not have customers, and so forth. A row that returns a value of 0 (zero) is not the same as an unmatched row. In the Set Relationship dialog box, Suppress Mismatches only works on rows that return null values, not 0 values.

To create an unmatched, or outer, relationship:

  1. In the Query window, click the relationship line that connects your tables. If there is no relationship line, create a simple relationship between the two tables.
  2. Click the Set Table Relationship button in the Icon Bar to display the Set Relationship dialog box.

  3. Choose one of the display options to either retrieve all records included in a simple relationship or to retrieve only the rows where there is a corresponding value in both tables.
