As you create, copy, or edit custom measures, you define the expression that the custom measure uses to calculate its values. You define the expression in the Expression box of the Custom Measures - Action dialog box.
Note: Currently, you cannot use aggregation functions, such as TOTAL or AVERAGE, in a custom measure. Using these functions causes unpredictable results.
The easiest way to define an expression is to select from the objects, functions, and operators provided in the Choices box. Aggregation functions are not presented, so you can safely use any function that appears in the Choices box.
You can also type an expression directly in the Expression box, as long as the value you type is a valid Express expression.
To define an expression by selecting from the Choices box:In the Category box, select a category of functions or operators. If you do not know which category contains a particular function, select Functions, then All.
In the Choices box, select a function or operator.
Information about the selected entry appears in the Information box below the Category box and the Choices box.
Insert the Choices box item into the Expression box, using one of these methods:
Double-click the selection.
Click the selection and choose Insert.
In the Expression box, select any part of the inserted expression and replace it as necessary. You can select any argument by double-clicking it.
For example, after you insert a function prototype, the first argument in the prototype is selected so you can replace it with a real argument. You can insert Express dimension names in the same way that you inserted the function.
