Select Top/Bottom dialog box

Use the Select Top/Bottom dialog box to choose dimension values based on the top and bottom data values in a particular measure. For example, you might want to choose the top five cities in sales for your company's products. You would base your selection of Geography values on data in the Sales measure.

Dialog box components

Selection Type box -- Contains the following options for the way newly selected values will affect the current selection:

The top boxes -- Type a number in the first box to specify the exact number or percentage of values you want to find with the largest data values. In the second box, choose Dimension for the exact number or % Dimension for a percentage.

And/Or the bottom boxes -- Type a number in the first box for the exact number or percentage of values you want to find with the smallest data values. In the second box, choose Dimension for the exact number or % Dimension for a percentage.

Based on box -- Identifies the measure whose values will be used as the selection criteria. To select a different measure, click on the Ellipsis button to display a list of all measures that use the current dimension.

Exclude box -- Contains the following options for handling data values:

Sort automatically box -- Specifies whether to use the sort criteria specified in the Sort tool to sort the dimension automatically each time the selection changes. When this box is clear, the selection is sorted from top to bottom.

In hierarchy box -- Lists the hierarchies that are defined for the selected dimension. Select the hierarchy that you want to use.

At level(s) box -- Lists the levels in the selected hierarchy, if any. Select the levels that you want to include in your new selection. Use SHIFT+CLICK or CTRL+CLICK to select multiple levels.

For dimension box -- Identifies a single value for each of the other dimensions in the measure. To change a selection, click on the adjacent Ellipsis button to get a list of all values in the dimension.

Script box -- Displays the criteria that will be added to the selection script if you choose OK.

Preview button -- Displays the Preview dialog box, which allows you to examine the change you are considering and lists the dimension values that will be selected if you adopt the change.
