parent

1. An object that is immediately above another object in its group tree. A group object is the parent to each of the objects that compose it. Every object is the parent of its children.
2. (Oracle Express) A dimension value at the level immediately above a particular value in a hierarchy. The parent value is the aggregated total of the values of its children. The following example shows the dimension value "France" as the parent of "Lyon" and "Paris" in the GEOGRAPHY dimension.
