The Format Exception dialog box displays when you click New or Edit in the Conditional Formatting dialog box, and enables you to quickly and easily specify output formatting attributes for a selected layout object based on defined conditions. You can define up to three conditions, which are evaluated in the order specified (that is, top down). Each condition that evaluates to TRUE is applied, unless the result of setting the condition is to hide the object (in which case, it is meaningless to apply formatting).

Parameter/column list |
Lists all the system and user parameters for which conditions can be set, and the number, date, car, and long columns that can provide values for the layout object. | ||||
Condition list |
Lists the valid conditions for the selected parameter or column. | ||||
Value fields |
Enable you to specify the value(s) for the selected parameter or column. You can specify literal values or bind variables. For example: SAL between :LOWSAL and 5000

AND/OR list |
Enables you to specify boolean logic for evaluating the
result of multiple conditions. If three conditions are specified,
the result of the first two conditions is evaluated against the third
condition (that is, This list is only active when the check box for the subsequent condition is checked.

Hide the Objects check box |
Enables you to specify whether or the layout object should not be shown in the formatted report when the specified condition(s) evaluate to TRUE.

Text Color |
Color for the text of the layout object when the specified condition(s) evaluate to TRUE. | ||||
Fill Color |
Color for the fill (background) of the layout object when the specified condition(s) evaluate to TRUE. | ||||
Border Color |
Color for the border of the layout object when the specified condition(s) evaluate to TRUE. | ||||
Font |
Displays the Font dialog box to enable you to change the font style, weight, and size of the layout object when the specified condition(s) evaluate to TRUE. If you click OK in the Font dialog box, Reports Builder will apply all settings in this dialog box to the layout object when the specified conditions evaluate to TRUE (whether or not you modify the default settings in the Font dialog box). | ||||
