Graph Wizard: Group Axis Format page

Use the Group Axis Format page to specify options for the group axis on your graph. The group axis is the X-axis of a graph. The X-axis is the horizontal axis of a vertically oriented graph. The labels along this axis, such as January 2000, February 2000, and so on, identify groups of data.

Show X-Axis Title -- Specifies whether to show the title of the axis on the graph. A typical title identifies the type of information that appears along the X-axis. For example, if you display city names along the axis, the title might be "Cities" or "Geography." Until specified, the check box remains unchecked and no title is displayed on the graph. Once specified, the check box is checked automatically and a title will be displayed on the graph. You can type custom text or use parameter or column values that are provided by Insert. Click the X-Axis Title Font button to display the Font dialog box, where you specify font attributes.

Note: When you specify a graph title, subtitle, footnote, or axis title in the Graph Wizard, you can insert lexical references (to user parameters, system parameters, and columns) in the text. For example, in the Show Title field on the Title page of the Graph Wizard, type: titletext &<P_1> to insert the value of the user parameter P_1 into the title text at runtime. The angle brackets (<>) are required around the parameter or column name.

Insert -- Lists system parameter and column values that you can select to insert in the title.

Line Thickness -- Lists a selection of thicknesses for the line of the axis.

Line Color -- Lists a selection of colors for the line of the axis.

Show Labels for All Tick Marks on the Axis -- Select to display labels for all items on this axis. Setting this option limits the automatic graph layout. If you have many groups or long group labels, then the labels may overlap. You can specify rotation for the labels by clicking the X-Axis Label Font button.

Show Labels for Some Tick Marks on the Axis -- Select to display only some of the labels.

Automatically Skip Labels to Fit -- Select to have the graph automatically calculate how the tick labels will fit along the axis and to skip enough that the remaining labels are readable.

Start with Tick Mark -- Select to exert finer control over the number of labels to skip. If you select this option, then set the number of the first tick label to display, and set the Tick Marks to Skip Between Labels option as well. The first label in the graph is label number 1.

Tick Marks to Skip Between Labels -- Select the number of labels to skip between the ones that the graph displays.

Note: If you set skipping so that the first label that you want to show is a higher number than the number you want to skip, then a label may appear before the first one that you want. For example, if you set 4 as the first label to display, but you set the number of marks to skip to 2, then the first label appears.

X-Axis Label Font -- Displays the Font dialog box, where you specify font attributes for the axis labels. The Font dialog box allows you to rotate tick labels.
