Selecting data

The Selector is a set of related dialog boxes that allows you to make dimension value selections for each dimension. You can use Selector features to select specific values for a dimension, sort the values, save a custom selection of dimension values, and work with saved selections. You can also set viewing options for the Selector.

To use the Selector:
  1. In the Express Query dialog box, select a measure for the query and choose Selector.

The Selector dialog box appears. The dimensions and the number of values currently selected for the dimension are displayed.

Tip: You can choose Options to change how dimension values are displayed in the Selector. For example, you can specify that the values appear in a list rather than as a number.

  2. Use the Selector tools to select and sort the values for this dimension, including saved selections. The current selection criteria are displayed in a script. Use the tools to refine or replace the selection.

Note: Not all tools are available for all dimensions. Tools that are dimmed are not available.

Tip: To see the dimension values in the current selection, choose the List tool.

  3. When the selection includes the values that you want, choose OK in the Selector dialog box.

Tip: If you create selection criteria that you want to use again, then you can save them before exiting the Selector. To save the selection, choose Library.

  4. Repeat Steps 1 through 3 for each dimension that you want to change.

  5. To create a custom measure or select a saved custom measure, select the Measure dimension and choose Custom.

  6. When your work is complete, choose OK.
