Use the Select by Family dialog box to choose values based on their family. For example, you might select Geography values for Canada and its child cities. The Family tool is available only when a hierarchy is defined for the selected dimension.

Select -- Replaces the current selection with new values.
Add -- Adds new values to the current selection.
Keep -- Keeps newly chosen values in the current selection and discards the others.

Family member(s) of Dimension box -- Identifies the dimension value whose family you want to choose. To select a different value, click on the Ellipsis button for a list of all values in the current dimension and hierarchy.
Levels box -- Usually consists of two columns, depending on the hierarchy. The left column lists all levels in the current hierarchy. The right column shows the relationship of the values at each level to the anchor point. One level is identified as the level that includes the anchor point. Values at other levels can be the ancestor, the parent, one of the children, or one of the descendants of the value selected in the Family Member(s) of Dimension box.
Select the level or levels that you want to include in the selection. Use SHIFT+CLICK or CTRL+CLICK to select multiple levels.
Script box -- Displays the criteria that will be added to the selection script if you choose OK.
Preview button -- Displays the Preview dialog box, which allows you to examine the change you are considering and lists the dimension values that will be selected if you adopt the change.
