Use the Select by Exception dialog box to select dimension values based on the data values in a particular measure or on the way those data values compare with data values in a second measure. For example, you might want to select all cities whose total dollar sales for a particular product exceeded $5,000,000 during the previous year. Or you might want to select all cities whose sales exceeded forecast by 10 percent.
Selection Type box -- Contains the following options for the way newly selected values will affect the current selection:
Select -- Replaces the current selection with new values.
Add -- Adds new values to the current selection.
Keep -- Keeps newly chosen values in the current selection and discards the others.
Remove -- Removes newly selected values from the current selection and keeps the others.
Exception Type box -- Contains the following options for the type of exception criteria:
Numeric -- Compares a measure against a single value. After you make this choice, the following boxes appear:
Dimension Values Where box -- Identifies the measure whose values the Exception tool compares to the value you specify in the Value box. To select a different measure, click on the Ellipsis button to display a list of all measures that use the current dimension.
Is box -- Operator that identifies the way matching data values in the selected measure compare to a specified data value. You can choose from these terms: equal to, less than or equal to, greater than or equal to, not equal to, between, greater than, outside, and less than.
Value -- Type in a number that the Exception tool will compare to values of the selected measure. When the current operator requires a range of values (between or outside), the dialog box contains two boxes in which you type the upper and lower values of the range.
Measure -- Compares one measure with another measure. After making this choice, you will see the following boxes:
Dimension Values Where box -- Identifies the measure whose values the Exception tool compares to the value you specify in the Value box. To select a different measure, click on the Ellipsis button to display a list of all measures that use the current dimension.
Is box -- Operator that identifies the way matching data values in the selected measure compare to a second measure. You can choose from Less than or Greater than.
Value box -- Type in a number that the Exception tool will compare to values of the selected measure. In the box next to it, choose Percent or Value depending on whether you want the number to be a percentage or a constant value.
Comparison box -- Indicates the type of comparison that the Exception tool will make between the two measures. You can choose Above, Below, or Above or below.
Measure box -- Identifies the second measure the Exception tool will use in the comparison. To select a different measure, click on the Ellipsis button to display a list of all measures that use the current dimension.
Exclude box -- Contains the following option for handling data values:
Zeros check box -- Check this box if you want zero values in the data to be excluded from the search.
In hierarchy box -- Lists the hierarchies that are defined for the selected dimension. Select the hierarchy that you want to use. Select the hierarchy that you want to use or select NONE to include all dimension values.
At level(s) box -- Lists the levels in the selected hierarchy, if any. Select the levels that you want to include in your new selection. Use SHIFT+CLICK or CTRL+CLICK to select multiple levels.
For dimension box -- Identifies a single value for each of the other dimensions for the two measures. To change a selection, click on the adjacent Ellipsis button to get a list of all values in the dimension.
Script box -- Displays the criteria that will be added to the selection script if you choose OK.
Preview button -- Displays the Preview dialog box, which allows you to examine the change you are considering and lists the dimension values that will be selected if you adopt the change.
