About Text Item Maximum Length

You can specify the maximum number of characters a text item or display item can store. Oracle Forms enforces the maximum length independently of the item's Height and Width properties.

A single-line text item is scrollable when it can store more characters than it is capable of displaying. Oracle Forms scrolls the value in the text item horizontally as the end user enters characters so that the cursor remains visible.

The number of characters that a text item can display is determined by a combination of factors, including the width of the text item, the font attributes, and the runtime platform. Some experimentation may be required to derive the optimum settings for the Maximum Length and Size properties.
