About Defining Items for Enter Query Mode

The following types of items are queryable in Enter Query mode:

All other types of items are non-navigable when a form is in Enter Query mode, and their values cannot be included in the example record.

When the operator or the application executes a query, the SELECT statement that Oracle Forms sends to the database includes the WHERE clause defined by the block's WHERE and ORDER BY properties, plus any additional query criteria specified by the operator. When a form is in Enter Query mode, operators can enter example values in items to further restrict the query, as follows:

Text Items

To include a text item value in a query, enter a value in the item. To exclude the item from the query, leave the item blank.

Check Boxes

To include or exclude the current check box value from a query, shift-click the item with the mouse to toggle it between the Query Enabled and Query Disabled states. When the check box is query-enabled, its value is included in the query.

Radio Groups

To include a radio group value in a query, click any button in the radio group. To exclude the radio group from the query, click the currently selected radio button so that no radio buttons in the group are selected.

List Items

To include a List item value in a query, select any List item value. To exclude the List item from the query, select the blank (empty) element in the List.

Query Allowed Property Set the Query Allowed property of a check box, List item, radio group, or text item to specify whether operators are able to navigate to the item in Enter Query mode.

When a form is in Enter Query mode, Oracle Forms skips over items that have the Query Allowed property set to No, even if those items are navigable in normal mode.

Query Length Property Query Length specifies the number of characters an operator is allowed to enter in a text item when the form is in Enter Query mode. The Query Length must be at least as many characters as the text item's Maximum Length property.

The Query Length property applies only to text items.

Setting the Query Length property greater than Maximum Length allows operators to enter relational operators in the text item when using query-by-example. For example, in a SALARY text item with a Maximum Length of 6, operators might want to enter query values such as

<=52200

or

#BETWEEN 30000 and 40000

Setting the SALARY item's Query Length property to 26 allows operators to enter these queries directly in the text item, without having to invoke the Query WHERE dialog box.

Case Restriction Property The Case Restriction property applies only to text items. It determines whether Oracle Forms should treat upper and lower case values the same way when processing a query.
