Navigating and Selecting Objects in the Object Navigator
You select Object Navigator entries as you move the cursor up and down in the Object Navigator. The current entry can be either a node or an actual object. When you select an object, the Property Palette is updated to display that object's properties.
You can use the following keys to navigate and select objects in the Object Navigator:
-
-
- Selects the previous node or object displayed above the current entry.
-
-
- Selects the next node or object displayed below the current entry.
-
-
- Selects and collapses the node or object at the level above the current
entry.
-
-
- Selects the node or object at the level below the current selection, expanding
collapsed entries as necessary. If there is no such object, selects the entry
immediately below the cursor.
-
-
- Expands all items in a node.
-
-
- Collapses all items in a node.
Selecting Objects with the Mouse
You can use the following techniques to select nodes and objects:
- Single Selection
-
- Select a single Object Navigator entry by clicking with the mouse or by
moving the cursor with the arrow keys. When no other entries are selected,
the cursor position represents the current single selection.
-
- Range Selection
-
- Shift-click to select a range of Object Navigator entries. Shift-click selects
all entries between the cursor position and the selection point. Objects in
a range selection must be of the same type.
-
- Multi-Selection
-
- Control-click to select multiple Object Navigator entries. You can select
as many objects as you want this way, adding them one at a time. Deselect
objects by Control-clicking again.
When a single object is selected, its properties are displayed in the Property Palette. When more than one object is selected in the Object Navigator, the Property Palette displays either the union or intersection of the selected objects' properties.
Navigating with the Context List
As you move up and down in the Object Navigator, the Context list at the top
of the Object Navigator window displays the name of the currently selected object,
its ancestors in the object hierarchy, and the names of all open modules. Selecting
an object in the list moves you to that object in the Object Navigator.
