About Validating Text Items Using LOV Values

When you attach an LOV to a text item, you can set the optional Validate from List property to have Oracle Forms validate the value of the text item against the values in the LOV.

When Validate from List is set to Yes, Oracle Forms compares the current value of the text item to the values in the first column displayed in the LOV whenever the validation event occurs:

When you use an LOV for validation, Oracle Forms always marks a text item as Valid if the end user selects a choice from the LOV. Thus, it is your responsibility to ensure that a) the text item to which the LOV is attached is defined as a return item for the first column displayed in the LOV and b) the values in the LOV will actually be valid.

Note: Although the item is marked as valid internally, the When-Validate-Item trigger still fires if present.

Note also that the first column displayed in the LOV may not be the first column in the LOV's underlying record group, as some record group columns may not have been included in the LOV structure, or may be hidden columns.
