About Defining WHERE and ORDER BY Clauses for a Block

The WHERE and ORDER BY block properties allow you to restrict and order the records returned to a data block by the default SELECT statement associated with that block.

You can modify the WHERE and ORDER BY clauses programmatically at runtime by executing the SET_BLOCK_PROPERTY Built-in procedure.

Remember also that operators can place the form in Enter Query mode and then further restrict the default WHERE Clause by specifying additional query conditions in data items.

You can set the default WHERE and ORDER BY clauses for a block in the Property Palette. To invoke a text editor in the Property Palette, double-click the desired property.

Tip: Select Tools | Tables/Columns to invoke the Tables/Columns browser to look up table and column names in the database.

Any valid SQL WHERE and ORDER BY clauses can be entered in the default WHERE clause and default ORDER BY clause properties. Some additional considerations are specific to Oracle Forms:
