About the Data Block Wizard

The Data Block Wizard enables you to quickly and easily create or modify data blocks for use in your application. When you use the wizard to create or modify a data block, the wizard can automatically generate code to enforce integrity constraints in the database, and modify various properties and settings for you, giving you more time to concentrate on other aspects of developing your application.

Use the Data Block Wizard to complete the following tasks:

The Data Block Wizard is re-entrant

A powerful quality of the Data Block Wizard is its ability to operate in re-entrant mode. You can use the Data Block Wizard to modify an existing data block, even if the block was not originally created with the wizard.

To invoke the Data Block Wizard in re-entrant mode, select the existing data block in the Object Navigator (or select any item in the block in the Object Navigator or Layout Editor), then choose Tools | Data Block Wizard from the menu.

Navigating in the Data Block Wizard

The Data Block Wizard provides six buttons to help you navigate your way through its pages:

Cancel

Cancels all changes you have made (if any), and exits the wizard

Help

Displays online help text for the current page of the wizard

Back

Navigates to the previous page in the wizard

Next

Navigates to the next page in the wizard

Apply

Applies changes you have made without exiting the wizard (re-entrant wizard only)

Finish

Saves changes you have made with the wizard (if any), and exit the wizard

Note: If you click Next or Back before you have entered all necessary information for a particular wizard page, the wizard prevents you from navigating to the next (or previous) page. Similarly, if you have not entered all necessary information into the wizard when you click Apply or Finish, the wizard automatically places you onto the page where you can finish entering the required data.
