About Converting Coordinate System Units

When you change the coordinate system for an existing form, Oracle Forms converts all object size and position values to the new units of measurement.

Some loss of precision can occur when converting to different units. When converting from one real unit to another, any loss of precision is usually insignificant. However, converting from real units to character cells may affect the layout of the form. Oracle Forms rounds all values to the nearest character cell value, and may noticeably alter the size and position of objects in your interface.

Note: Oracle Forms does not automatically convert size or position values specified in PL/SQL code (triggers, subprograms, and so on). Oracle Forms interprets these values in the coordinate units in effect at runtime.

For example, for a form designed with the coordinate system units specified as pixels, containing PL/SQL code which explicitly changes the width of a text box on the form by 3 units, if the real unit coordinate system of the form is subsequently changed from pixels to inches, the code when executed will change the width of the text box by 3 inches.
