Creating a User-Named Subprogram

User-named subprograms are named objects that you define in form, menu, or library modules.

To create a user-named subprogram:

  1.  In the Object Navigator, select the desired Program Units node and then choose Edit | Create.
The New Program Unit dialog appears.
  2. Specify the Name of the program unit to create and then specify the program unit Type (either Procedure, Function, Package Spec, or Package Body).
  3. Enter, edit, and compile the procedure or function you are defining.
Enter a complete procedure or function definition using standard PL/SQL structure and syntax.
Choose Compile to compile your program unit.

Note:Oracle Forms will apply your changes automatically when you close the editor even if you have not successfully compiled the program unit.

Oracle Forms displays each program unit name with an annotation that indicates its type (procedure body, package specification, and so on). For example, a procedure body would be annotated as shown here:

    calculate_totals (Procedure Body)

And a package specification would appear as follows:

    Error_Handlers (Package Specification)
