To specify whether or not operators should be able to updaterecords that were queried from the database set the Update Allowed and Enforce Column Security block properties.
When Update Allowed is set to Yes at the block level, you can set Update Allowed and Update Only if Null at the item level to specify whether operators should be able to updatespecific items in a queried record.
These mutually exclusive properties specify updateconditions for an item that is part of a record whose status is QUERY. Oracle Forms marks a record's status as QUERY if the record has been fetched or committed; that is, when the record reflects a row in the database.
Set the Enforce Column Security property to Yes to have Oracle Forms automatically set Update Allowed at runtime, depending on whether the current operator has updateprivileges for the item's corresponding column in the database.
When Enforce Column Security is set to Yes, the current operator must have column-level updateprivileges on the columns to which the block's items correspond. Oracle Forms enforces column security by dynamically setting the Update Allowed property to No at form startup for items that correspond to columns on which the operator does not have updateprivileges.
When you set Enforce Column Security to Yes, Oracle Forms reads the privileges defined in the data dictionary at form startup.
