About Manipulating Database Roles at Runtime

If you use database roles to manage database object privileges and Oracle Forms application menu security, you may want to check and set database roles at runtime. For example, you can check the SESSION_ROLES data dictionary view to determine what roles or privileges are enabled for the current user.

Also, you can query these additional views to check database role information dynamically at runtime:

For maximum security, the role could require a password to SET. In this way, a Oracle Forms application could SET the role at startup by providing a password encrypted within the form, thus automatically granting access to all of the database objects necessary to run that form.
