File and Directory Naming Conventions

Use lowercase for all filenames, directory names, path names, parameters, flags, and command-line commands, unless you are instructed otherwise.

Directory names or filenames may not contain special characters, such as apostrophes, accents, number (pound, or hash) signs, or ampersands. For Windows server installs, spaces are not allowed; spaces are allowed on Windows client installs. Underscores are acceptable.

How This Guide Refers to Your Installation Directories

This guide uses the following variable-naming conventions to refer to the installation directories either created by the installers or to which users navigate to access files and executable programs.

SIEBEL_ROOT. Generally, this refers to the main directory in which software for each Siebel Server Enterprise entity has been installed. The installers for the Windows Enterprise Server components install into the top-level directory C:\sea7x by default. Generally, this directory is what SIEBEL_ROOT represents in this book.

SIEBEL_HOME. The installation or root directory for Siebel Business Applications software in general, or the Siebel Gateway Name Server or the Siebel Server, depending on the context. Many scripts contain variables with this name; its meaning is most often derived from the context.

SIEBSRVR_ROOT. The installation or root directory for Siebel Server.

SIEBEL_GATEWAY_ROOT. The installation or root directory for Siebel Gateway Name Server.

SWSE_ROOT. The directory into which you install the Siebel Web Server Extension (SWSE).

SIEBEL_CLIENT_ROOT. The directory into which you install the Siebel Mobile Web Client or Siebel Developer Web Client.

SIEBEL_TOOLS_ROOT. The directory into which you install the Siebel Tools Client.
