Connecting Directly to Wireless Network Operators

For one-way wireless messaging, if you connect directly to wireless network operators, rather than going through the MobileSys Network, you should be careful to connect to all the operators required to reach the entire population of wireless message recipients.

NOTE:  In some cases, network operators make public connections available, such as TAP dial-up connections or SMTP connections. In other cases you may be allowed to connect to network operators directly through private connections. Check with particular network operators for the connection options they provide.

To use these direct network connections, you must determine the following information for each wireless network operator:

  • The connection method required. For example, this may be a URL to which wireless messages are sent over IP connections or a dial-up connection to a paging server.
  • The message type required. MobileSys MX supports SMTP email, TAP paging, and a variety of leading SMS protocols including SNPP and SMPP. For a full list of supported wireless messaging protocols, see MobileSys MX Reference Manual on the Siebel eBusiness Third-Party Bookshelf.
  • Addressing and other information required to establish a service node within MobileSys MX.

A service node must be defined within MobileSys MX to support each network operator and message type. You must also create a communications driver profile to reference each MobileSys MX service node. For additional information, see Configuring Communications Drivers and Profiles.
