Administering Products for Siebel Medical Handheld

You need to set up products for cycle counting and inventory management on the handheld. A comprehensive set of procedures on how to manage products is included in the Managing Products section of the Siebel Life Sciences Guide.

To administer products for consignment inventory management

  1. From the application-level menu, Select Navigate > Site map > Administration-Product > Products.
  2. Select the product from the Products List.
  3. Click the hyperlinked entry in the Name field.

The More Info view appears. This view allows you to define the product for consignment inventory management. The relevant fields are described in the following table:

    Field
    Description

    Product

    The name of the product.

    Part #

    Part number of the product.

    Type

Type of product. For a description of Managing Products and Product Types, see Siebel Life Sciences Guide.

NOTE:  Product must be of type: Sample, Device, or Equipment to enable the Lot# Tracking field.

    >1 Barcode

Checked if product requires two barcodes to uniquely identify its assets.

This determines whether the application waits for a second barcode when scanning this product during a cycle count.

    Expression

Used to generate unique asset numbers from the product's barcode. It is a concatenation of the data descriptions for barcode items. For example, if the expression is Lot Number, Serial Number, then the serial number and lot number portions of the barcode are the product's unique asset numbers. These barcodes can be found in the Handheld Administration screen > Barcodes view.

    Leaf-Level

Calculated when Capture Hierarchy button is clicked. Indicates that the product has no children in the product hierarchy. Only leaf-level products are physical products, that can be purchased and inventoried. Products that are not leaf-level represent groups of products.

    Lot # Tracking

Flag that when checked indicates that the product is tracked by lot number. If this field is checked, you must define lot numbers for the product.

For more information on managing products, see Siebel Life Sciences Guide.

    Parent Product

The parent product of this product within the product hierarchy.

    Level

Calculated when Capture Hierarchy button is clicked. Number that indicates the position of the product in the product hierarchy. If a product is a root parent (top of the product hierarchy), level is set to 1.

    Requires Approval

Flag that if checked, and if the Requires Approval field in the Inventory screen > Inventory Locations view is set to Product, then customer approval (Handheld signature capture) is required when the product is moved out of an inventory location.

    Roll Up Level

Must be defined for all root parents. Indicates at what level, the handheld displays hierarchical results for inventory analysis. For example, a Rollup Level = 2 shows Root Parent information on the handheld. Rollup Level = 3 does not show information on Root Parent, and child products of Root Parent and so on.

    Root

Calculated when Capture Hierarchy button is clicked. Identifies the root parent product of the product hierarchy to which the product belongs.

    Short Days

The product is short dated this number of days before expiration. If this field is null, the Short Days setting in Application Administration > System Preferences is used.

    Unique ID

Identifies the product based on barcode data. This is the HIBC, UCC/EAN, or NDC number. It is used to map barcode data to the product.
