Creating New Barcode Definitions for the Handheld Application
You can define new one-dimensional barcodes in the Barcode Administration views. To define a new barcode, you would need to create a new barcode definition in the Barcode screen, then create corresponding records in the Barcode Item view to define data elements within the barcode. To create a new barcode definition
- From the application-level menu, select Navigate > Site Map > Administration-Mobile > Barcode Administration.
- Click New, then fill in the fields.
The fields in the Barcodes list are described in the following table:
|
|
Name |
Required. Any descriptive name for the barcode. Must be unique for all records defined in the Barcode screen. |
Sequence |
Required. Order in which to parse a barcode. |
Barcode Type |
Required. Type of Barcode Standard. Can either be Location or Code. For details on Location and Code barcode types, see Administering Barcode Settings for Siebel Handheld. |
Buscomp |
Required. Used to designate which business component the target data is be placed into. |
Min Length |
Used to determine a minimum number, in digits, for data scanned. If data is of a fixed, minimum length is equal to maximum length. |
Max Length |
Used to determine a maximum number, in digits, for data scanned. If data is of a fixed, maximum length, enter a number which stands for the number of digits. |
Prefix |
Required. Defines the value that the parsing algorithm will use to identify barcode definition to use. |
Suffix |
Optional. Allows you to associate suffixes with individual fields. |
- In the Barcode Item view, add new records to identify how data will be parsed from barcode.
Depending on the type of barcode standard you just defined (either Location or Code), you then need to create new records in the Barcode Item Applet to identify how data will parse into property sets.
- In the Barcode Item applet, Click New, then update the required fields.
Some of the fields are described in the following table:
|
|
Name |
Required. Used by algorithm to identify what field to parse this data into (for example Lot Number, corresponds to Lot Number field). |
Code |
Applicable for Code barcodes only. The number that precedes a data element in a barcode. |
Sequence |
Required. For Code barcodes, once code has been matched, this corresponds to sequence used to parse data from barcodes for that data element. For Location barcodes, this corresponds to sequence used to parse data from barcodes. |
Min Length |
Required. Minimum Length of the character string for this data element. If this is a variable length string, then Minimum Length is not equal to Maximum Length. |
Max Length |
Required. Maximum Length of the character string for this data element. If this is a variable length string, then Minimum Length is not equal to Maximum Length. |
Data Format |
Optional. Defines format for data element (for example for date, MMDDYY). |
