ETL Process Description

The ETL process extracts information from the Siebel Transaction Database and other data sources, transforms the data, and loads it into the Siebel Data Warehouse. This process uses Informatica Power Center.

To properly customize the Siebel Data Warehouse for your business needs, you should be familiar with Informatica and the ETL process used in your implementation. Informatica provides its own documentation and training classes. This section presents the ETL process used in the standard Siebel Analytics implementation. Siebel Systems, Inc. has made every effort to make customization both flexible enough to accommodate most every business need, but also easy to achieve.

The ETL process covers the transport of information from the data source to the star schema tables in the Siebel Data Warehouse. The following strategies can help you in implementing customizations.

Do not delete or change any Siebel-supplied ETL objects (source fields and transformations). Instead, add new source fields, new data sources, transformations, extend existing star schemas, or add new star schemas.

Prior to planning any customizations, familiarize yourself with Siebel Data Warehouse Data Model Reference and the batch jobs Full_Load_Siebel_DW and Refresh_Siebel_DW.
