Sorting Records in Memory
Generally, it is possible to obtain the kind of sorting and grouping that is necessary for a report using sort specifications and group breaks, as explained in Reports with Group Sections. However, when master data is sorted by the contents of a multi-value field, or the master is in a many-to-many relationship with the detail, sorting cannot be defined in a sort specification. In these situations, the data must be passed to Actuate as a master-detail set of datastreams, and additional processing must occur in Actuate through the mechanism of a sort data filter.
This chapter explains how to design reports that require merging of records rather than a simple sort.
