Preinstallation Tasks


For important preinstallation considerations, see the section titled "Configuring an e.Reporting System user account" in Installing Actuate e.Reporting System guide for the operating system that you have installed. (This guide is available in PDF format on the Siebel eBusiness Third-Party Bookshelf under Actuate.) Read this section carefully and discuss it with your system administrator so that an account for the Siebel Reports Server can be allocated.

Note the following information when installing the Actuate e.Reporting System:

Before installing the Actuate components on your machine, install the Java Development Kit (JDK), and establish a new system variable. The JDK is required for Actuate e.Reporting Server, Actuate Management Console and Actuate Active Portal.

NOTE:  These instructions assume that the Actuate components are installed on one machine. If the Actuate components are installed on multiple machines make sure that JDK is installed on all of these machines.

To install the Java Development Kit

  1. Insert the UNIX_OS Server Ancillary Programs, Language CD 1 of 2 into your CD-ROM drive.
  2. Where:

    UNIX_OS indicates the type of UNIX being installed

    language = the Siebel code for the Language Pack you installed; for example, enu for U.S. English.

  3. Navigate to the following directory:
  4. Thirdpty/actuate/language/dist/j2se

    Where:

    language = the Siebel code for the Language Pack you installed; for example, enu for U.S. English.

  5. Depending on the type of UNIX being installed, do one of the following:
  6. For Solaris

    Enter the following command at the command prompt:

    ./j2sdk-1_3_1-solsparc.sh

    For AIX

    1. Copy Java131.rte.tar to a writable directory.
    2. Navigate to the writable directory where Java131.rte.tar was copied.
    3. Enter the following two commands at the command prompt:
      • tar -xvf Java131.rte.tar
      • smitty install
