Business Scenario for Transaction Workbook

This scenario provides an example of a process flow performed by the compensation administrator. Your company may follow a different process flow according to its business requirements.

At Network Ltd., Catherine Andrews, the compensation administrator, tracks opportunities from their creation through the development, sales, and order process so that she can determine the prospective life cycle of a sale.

Using Siebel Orders module, Andrews associates orders with accounts and opportunities, adds invoices to orders, and records payments against invoices. She then navigates to the Transaction Workbook and imports the orders for the current period, Q2 2003. Among the orders that are imported are new orders generated during the period, and orders that have been modified since the last orders import.

Andrews reviews the orders and notices that a new member on one of the sales teams has not been added to the transaction team. At this point she can modify the sales team associated with the order using Siebel Orders, which automatically generates net change transactions, or she can adjust the transaction in the Transaction Workbook. She modifies the order, adding the new sales team member in Siebel Orders so that the reporting of Siebel Orders and Incentive Compensation Orders are the same.

She also has been notified that one of the transactions has changed. New products were added to the order, and the order amount increased from $800,000 to $1 million. Because the order has already been processed and the transaction team has received commissions for the sale, a net change transaction must be created to restate the transaction amount so that the sales team can receive the correct compensation.

Andrews performs another Orders import process, which automatically creates net change transactions, and imports any new orders that have been created since the last import. Next she reviews the orders imported into the Transaction Workbook, and she exports the data to the Calculation Workbook where it can be reviewed again before running the Calculation Engine. She also accumulates transactions to the Achievement Containers Workbook, where they are accumulated for measurement against aggregate rules and hurdles, including quota-based rules and hurdles.

Network Ltd. rewards its employees for community service, so in the Employee Workbook Andrews adds bonus scores for employees who have volunteered their time during Q2. These scores are included in the next Calculation Run for Q2.
