Managing Volumes

You can use the Volume Manager to view the status of and manage the availability of volumes processed by the Indexer job for an application (DDN). A volume refers to an individual input file after it has been indexed.

By default, eaDirect marks volumes as Accepted if the Indexer job is successful. A volume must be Accepted to be available for viewing on the Web. eaDirect marks a volume as Rejected if errors occur during the Indexer job.

Use the Volume Manager to:

·       View volume status – The Volume Manager page lists each volume processed by the most recent Indexer job for selected application (DDN). A date in either the Date Accepted or Date Rejected column indicates the status of the volume. You can sort the volume list by column headers.

·       Accept or reject a volume (Intercept to Verify option only) – If you require manual acceptance of volumes (you’re using the Intercept to Verify option in the Action on Index Volume field in the Indexer job configuration), you can use the Volume Manager to manually accept or reject the volume once you have verified the integrity of the file and the associated index data. A volume shows no status if you have not yet accepted or rejected it. You can manually mark a volume as Accepted to make the content available for Web users (only Accepted volumes are viewable to Web users). You may need to manually reject a volume if you discover an issue with the file or its associated index data.

·       Purge a volume’s index data – If there is an issue with the index data created for a volume, you can purge that index data from the database. Purging does not delete the volume or any other associated files, only the related index data. You can purge an Accepted or Rejected volume.

Caution: Once you have accepted a volume you cannot reject it, and if you have rejected a volume you cannot then accept it. You may need to purge the volume.

To manage the volumes for an application:

1.   On the Command Center Main Console, click the name of the application whose volumes you want to view. eaDirect displays the Edit Application screen.

2.   Click the Manage Volumes button. eaDirect displays the Volume Manager page, listing each volume processed by the Indexer job for selected application (DDN). You can sort-by column header or click paging links to display more volumes, if necessary. To display the full pathname of the file, "mouse over" the file name. The IVN (Index Volume Number) column indicates processing sequence.

To reject a volume, click the Reject button in the Manage column on the same row as the volume. eaDirect changes the volume status to Rejected, and puts the current date and time in the Date Rejected column, and makes the rejected volume unavailable for viewing on the Web.

To accept a volume, click the Accept button in the Manage column on the same row as the volume. eaDirect changes the volume status to Accepted and puts the current date and time in the Date Accepted column, and makes the accepted volume available for viewing on the Web.

To purge a volume, click the Purge button in the Manage column on the same row as the volume. If the volume status is Accepted, eaDirect prompts "This volume is accepted, and may still be active. Are you sure you want to purge it?" Click OK. eaDirect purges the index data for that volume from the database (it does not delete the volume or any other associated files).
