Enabling User-Initiated Administration Actions


By default, users cannot change their own passwords or join Presentation Services groups. This is customizable, you can enable one or both of these privileges. This change affects your entire user community.

To enable user-initiated administration actions

  1. Stop WWW, Web server, and Oracle Business Intelligence services.
  2. Copy \SAROOTDIR\web\msgdb\messages\controlmessages.xml to \SAROOTDIR\web\msgdb\customMessages\controlmessages.xml, where SAROOTDIR is the installation directory.
  3. Open the copied file with a text editor.
  4. To enable users to join Presentation Services group, do the following:
    1. Find the following configuration key:

    <WebMessage name="kmsgJoinGroupLink"><!-- <HTML><A insert="1"><MessageRef name="kmsgUIJoinGroup"/></A></HTML> --></WebMessage>

    1. Edit it as follows:

    <WebMessage name="kmsgJoinGroupLink"><HTML><A insert="1"><MessageRef name="kmsgUIJoinGroup"/></A></HTML></WebMessage>

    This edit removes "<!--" and "-->" from the key. These two phrases disable the feature.

  5. To enable users to change passwords, do the following:
    1. Find the following configuration key:

    <WebMessage name="kmsgChangePasswordLink"><!-- <HTML><A insert="1"><MessageRef name="kmsgUIChangePassword"/></A></HTML> --></WebMessage>

    1. Edit it as follows:

    <WebMessage name="kmsgChangePasswordLink"><HTML><A insert="1"><MessageRef name="kmsgUIChangePassword"/></A></HTML></WebMessage>

    This edit removes "<!--" and "-->" from the key. These two phrases disable the feature.

  6. Save the edited file.
  7. Restart the Oracle BI Server, Web server, and WWW services in that order.
