Answers

  1. What is the usage reporter?

The usage reporter gathers information about certain user actions and sends the information to Oracle.

  2. What kind of information will be gathered?

Only information permissible under Oracle's privacy policy (at www.oracle.com) will be collected by the usage reporter.

    The information gathered includes:

    • The version of the product being used.
    • JVM name and version, and classpath.
    • Operating system name and version.
    • Number of processors and amount of installed memory.
    • The Oracle and Eclipse plug-ins installed and active.
    • The Oracle and Eclipse features installed.
    • The heapsize dedicated to Eclipse.
    • Number of projects open within the product, and the natures and facets defined for those projects.
    • The server(s) being targeted by projects, if applicable.
  3. What will Oracle do with this information?

Oracle will use the information gathered to help us focus product development on those areas of greatest value to our customers.

  4. Will any personal information be gathered?

No. The information gathered cannot be traced back to a particular system or user.

  5. Can I stop participating later if I choose to?

Yes. At any time, you can choose the Help > Oracle Usage Reporting menu command, and opt out using the resulting dialog. No further information will be gathered unless and until you opt back in.

  6. Can I see the information that is being gathered?

Yes. The last block of data reported to Oracle's usage reporting server is stored in:

    <workspace directory>/.metadata/.plugins/com.bea.workshop.common.usagetrack/last_message.xml

The block will be overwritten with new data each time a report is sent.

  7. How is the usage reporting feature turned on or off?

The feature is turned on by default. During initial launch, the Oracle Usage Reporting dialog provides an option to turn reporting off; to do so, be sure to make the appropriate change in the dialog and click OK.

At a later time, you can revisit the Oracle Usage Reporting dialog to change or review your selection via the Help > Oracle Usage Reporting menu command.
