You can group inventory components to better organize your view of
the inventory tree. For example, you can categorize your Agents into
Plain Agent and ESX Agent groups. You can also copy or move components
to your custom groups to create members.
- Groups and member settings are persisted across sessions on a
per-user basis.
- Groups can have other groups as members.
- Groups can be filtered along with non-group nodes in the
navigation tree.
Create an inventory component group
- Click the Inventory tab in the WLOC
navigation bar (if the Inventory pane is not currently
displayed).
- Right-click a group in the Inventory pane, select
Grouping from the context menu, and then select
Add Group.
- Enter a name for the group in the dialog box and click
OK.
- To add members to the new group, see "Create group members"
below.
Rename, delete, or ungroup inventory components
- Click the Inventory tab in the WLOC
navigation bar (if the Inventory pane is not currently
displayed).
- Right-click a group in the Inventory pane and select
Grouping from the context menu.
- From the Grouping context menu, select one
of the following options:
- Select Delete group to remove the group from the
inventory tree.
- Select Rename Group to rename the selected group.
- Select UnGroup to return the group members to the last
component they were children of. Copy-and-paste group members are
simply removed.
Create group members
Copying components does not create actual physical copies; rather, it
is a way to view a node from a different perspective. For example, a
service could appear under Resource Pools (as a
user) as well as under Services, but this is only
for customization purposes.
To copy a component to a group:
- Click the Inventory tab in the WLOC
navigation bar (if the Inventory pane is not currently
displayed).
- Right-click a component in the Inventory pane, select
Grouping from the context menu, and then select
Copy.
- Right-click the group that you want to make the component a member
of, select Grouping from the context menu, and
then select Paste.
To move a component to a group:
- Click the Inventory tab in the WLOC
navigation bar (if the Inventory pane is not currently
displayed).
- Select a component and drag it to a custom group.
