Adding Categories

Provider (Business), Service, Binding and tModel types include a Categories container property. Categories should be published to help potential clients locate records based on semantics other than name or unique identifier key.

Categories are taxonomies and as such are a type of Keyed Reference.

To Add a Category...

  1. Navigate to the Categories tab.

    1. After logging in click the Publish tab.

    2. Click the Publish link in the menu.

    3. In the left hand navigation panel locate the record to which you wish to add categories. Its node is identified by default name. Clicking the node loads the Edit record page.

    4. On the right side of the page, click the Categories tab. It is usually somewhere in the middle of the right side tabs.

  2. Click the Add category button.

  3. The Categories table loads and beneath it the Taxonomy list tree. Select taxonomies to be displayed; Enterprise Taxonomies, All taxonomies... except system ones, All taxonomies... including system ones.

  4. Add a Category to the Categories table. This may be a checked category or an unchecked one.

    To Add a Checked category

    1. Drill down through the tree to the category you want to add. When you locate it, check it.

    2. Some checked taxonomic categories can be added with all parent taxonomies. Others can only be added singly.

To Add a single taxonomy click the top Add category icon. The one with the dotted arrow heads to the right of the tree.

To Add a taxonomy with parents, click the lower Add with parents icon if it is visible. The arrow with the solid lines to the right of the tree. If you don't see it, either the taxonomy is not hierarchical or you have not drilled down below the root level of the taxonomy.

    To Add an Unchecked category

    1. Click the node for the desired taxonomy. Key name and Key value edit boxes load.

    2. Enter the Key name and Key value strings in the appropriate edit boxes.

    3. Click the Add category icon. The one with the dotted arrows to the right of the edit boxes.

  5. The Categories table now contains the selected category(ies). The Add category button reappears.

  6. Click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page. The new categories are written to the registry.

Category Groups: Categories can also be grouped together. To group categories, the Registry Administrator needs to create a taxonomic tModel designed to contain a group of other taxonomies. The default data loaded into the registry database upon installation contains no such tModels. If one or more Category Group tModels have been created, Add Category group functionality is enabled.
