Licensing

This section describes the development (SDK - software development kit), and production license package offerings for the following products:

WebLogic Server 10.0
WebLogic Portal 10.2
Workshop for WebLogic 10.2
WebLogic Integration 10.2

To use BEA products, you must have a valid license file installed on your system. BEA products use an XML-format file called license.bea, which is created by the installation program in the BEA Home directory and is used for all the BEA products installed in that directory. At run time, your BEA software checks the license.bea file to determine which product components you are authorized to use.

Note the following about the license.bea file when you install a BEA product:

In an initial installation, a nonexpiring development license.bea file is created in the BEA Home directory, allowing you to start using the software immediately. The development license is a full license, enabling all features of the installed product.
If a license.bea file already exists in the BEA Home directory in which you are performing an installation, the installation program automatically adds the development license included with your product distribution to this existing license.bea file.

Types of Licenses

Nonexpiring license types include:

Developer License: A developer license gives you access to development functionality, and supports up to five IP addresses. IP addresses are tracked from the time the server is started.
Production License: A production license allows unlimited connections and development for an unrestricted period of time, for a specific IP address.

WebLogic Server 10.0 License Package Offerings

The following table describes the licenses that are available for WebLogic Server 10.0.


Development Licenses
Product Offering	Description
WebLogic 10.0 SDK	Provides a complete development framework for WebLogic Server.
WebLogic 10.0 SDK, Pro Edition	Provides a complete development framework for WebLogic Server, and includes support.

Production Licenses
Product Offering	Description
WebLogic Server Premium Edition	Provides full support for WebLogic Server functionality including the core Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) Version 5 features. WebLogic Server Premium Edition provides premium clustering, caching, and messaging.
WebLogic Server Advantage Edition	Provides support for WebLogic Server functionality including the core Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) Version 5 features.
WebLogic Workgroup Edition	Provides support for the same functionality enabled by the WebLogic Server Advantage Edition, but is limited to 20 concurrent users.
WebLogic Express Premium Edition	WebLogic Express offers many services and APIs available with WebLogic Server, including WebLogic JDBC features, JavaServer Pages (JSP), servlets, Remote Method Invocation (RMI), and Web server functionality. WebLogic Express differs from WebLogic Server in that WebLogic Express does not provide Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB), Java Message Services (JMS), Java EE CA, or the 2-phase commit protocol for transactions. WebLogic Express Premium Edition includes premium clustering support.
WebLogic Express Base Edition	Provides the WebLogic Express functionality as described above but does not include premium clustering support.
WebLogic Server Process Edition	WebLogic Server Process Edition extends functionality of WebLogic Server, converging custom application development with Business Process Management (BPM) to enable the rapid development of service-oriented applications. WebLogic Server Process Edition provides you with the technologies and tools you need to effectively service-enable your existing resources, create composite services using process-driven development, and extend these composite services to interact with other applications and technologies.

WebLogic Portal 10.2 License Package Offerings

The following table describes the licenses that are available for WebLogic Portal 10.2.


Development Licenses
Product Offering	Description
WebLogic Portal 10.2	Provides a complete development framework for WebLogic Portal, and includes support.

Production Licenses
Product Offering	Description
WebLogic Portal 10.2	Provides an enterprise portal infrastructure with enterprise-class portal federation that includes publishing portlets to both portals and Web applications. BEA WebLogic Portal includes Web 2.0-enablement capabilities that simplify delivery of Web 2.0 benefits to portal users.

WebLogic Integration 10.2 License Package Offerings

The following table describes the licenses that are available for WebLogic Integration 10.2.


Development Licenses
Product Offering	Description
WebLogic Integration 10.2	Provides a complete development framework for WebLogic Integration, and includes support.

Production Licenses
Product Offering	Description
WebLogic Integration 10.2	Provides a solution for application integration and also acts as a strategic building block in enterprise integration solutions for Service Oriented Architectures (SOA).

BEA JRockit 5.0 License Package Offerings

BEA JRockit 5.0 includes support for BEA JRockit Mission Control. To use the included JRockit Mission Control, you need to obtain a suitable license.
The following table describes the licenses that are available for BEA JRockit Mission Control. For more information, or to download a developer license, see http://dev2dev.bea.com/jrockit/tools.html.


Mission Control License Types
License Type	Description
Developer license	The Developer license is free and allows JRockit to run the tools for one hour.
Enterprise License	The Enterprise license allows unlimited use of the tools. It is bound to an IP address.
ISV license	The ISV License allows independent software vendors access to the Mission Control APIs and branding of the tools. For more information, see http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13179_01/common/docs100/isv/.

Installing and Upgrading Licenses

To add a nonexpiring license or a license for additional functionality, you need to update the license.bea file in your BEA Home directory. For information about installing and updating licenses, see Installing and Updating Licenses in the BEA Products Installation Guide.
