Banner Fields

Use the Banner Fields area to specify the relative weight that Pathways gives to a text match on the Tags search field when ordering search results. Applying more weight to the Tag search field increases its relevancy ranking; applying less weight to the Tag search field decreases its relevancy ranking.

Banner weight information for non-tag properties is read-only. (To manage the relative weights for non-tag fields—and add and remove search fields—navigate to Administration, Search Results Manager utility, Banner Fields page, and edit as desired.)

The following table describes the table in the Banner Fields area:

Column

Description

Property

The search fields that are searchable in Pathways.

Percent Weight

The proportion of the weight assigned to the search field. All weights total 100%.

Weight

The relevance ranking of the search field.

Type a weight for the Tag search field. To attach more weight to the Tag search field, increase the weight number.

Analysis Sample Size

Use the Analysis Sample Size area to specify the number of top tagged search results that Pathways scans when determining the popular and related tags to display in the tag lists/tag clouds of the Search pages, Pathways Items portlet, and Pathways People portlet. The Analysis Sample Size area also specifies the number of top results—regardless of tags—that Pathways scans when determining subject matter experts, which are the people that are displayed in the People tab and the Pathways People portlet.

Example: You specify a sample size of 100. A user specifies to display a maximum of 25 popular and related tags in their tag list/cloud. After the user performs a search, Pathways scans the top 100 tagged items in the user's search results. The user's tag list/cloud contains the 25 most popular tags that are associated to the top 100 tagged items that were scanned. Additionally, the search results in the user's People tab and People portlet is populated with the people that are associated to the top 100 items (this is how Pathways determines subject matter experts).

Rank Weighting

Use the Rank Weighting area to adjust the importance that Pathways places on the ActivityRank of objects versus text matching (a text match occurs when an object's content or properties match the search phrase). Setting the value to a number between 0.00 and 0.49 places more importance on ActivityRank. Setting the value to 0.50 places equal importance on ActivityRank and text matching. Setting the value to a number between 0.51 and 1.00 places more importance on text matching.

Tag Rebuild

Use the Tag Rebuild area to delete then repopulate all tags in the search index.  This operation also removes tags that were applied to items that were subsequently deleted from the portal, Collaboration, and Publisher. You may want to perform a tag rebuild when you are concerned that the Pathways database and search index are out of sync.

Click Start to execute the rebuild operation.

Note: When an item or person is re-indexed, the tags that are associated to the item or person are temporarily dropped from the search index until the next Tag Rebuild operation is performed. For this reason, we recommend that you run the Tag Rebuild operation as often as necessary. Additionally, the ActivityRank that is associated to the item or person is also temporarily dropped until the next Rank Engine update is performed.
