Licensing
To use the WebLogic Platform software you must have a valid license file installed on your system. When you install WebLogic Platform 8.1, the installation program installs a non-expiring development license to enable you to start using the software immediately. The development license is a full license, enabling all of the component features of WebLogic Platform.

License Packages for WebLogic Platform 8.1 Product Offerings
You can install and license individual components of WebLogic
Platform, or the complete platform. During installation, the installation program
installs a license.bea
file in the BEA Home directory in which you install the software. If a license.bea
file already exists, the installation program updates the license. This license
file is checked at runtime to determine which features you can use. The licenses
available for WebLogic Platform 8.1 are described in the following table.

WebLogic Express Premium Edition |
WebLogic Express offers many services and APIs available with WebLogic Server, including WebLogic JDBC features, JavaServer Pages (JSP), servlets, Remote Method Invocation (RMI), and Web server functionality. WebLogic Express differs from WebLogic Server in that WebLogic Express does not provide Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB), Java Message Services (JMS), J2EE CA, WebLogic Workshop, or the two-phase commit protocol for transactions. WebLogic Express does not support applications developed in the WebLogic Workhop IDE. WebLogic Express Premium Edition includes premium clustering support. |

WebLogic Express Base Edition |

WebLogic Platform ISV Edition |
Intended for use with Independent Software Vendor (ISV) solutions built on WebLogic. ISVs with a current agreement for WebLogic Platform ISV Edition are entitled to use WebLogic Server, WebLogic Workshop, WebLogic Portal UI framework, and WebLogic Server Process Edition functionality in building value-added solutions. WebLogic Platform ISV Edition is intended for use with ISV applications and is not intended for custom application development by ISV customers. |

Installing and Upgrading License Files
To add a license for additional functionality,
you need to update the license.bea file in your BEA Home directory.
