Configure composite readers

Before you begin

Add readers

You specify names for logical readers (that is, read or write points) when defining physical readers. You can create additional logical readers by combining existing logical readers. A reader created in this way is called a composite reader.

Composite readers are logical readers that combine a set of physical RFID readers as one group. They are used within an ECSpec to identify a group of readers based on a composite name, thereby providing the flexibility of adding physical readers to the group without having to change the ECSpec itself. They provide an easy way to add or remove logical readers when one or more ECSpecs have already been defined.

By defining composite readers, you can decouple applications from decisions you take at deployment time about how many readers are needed to cover a single location. For more information on composite readers, see Configuring and Monitoring Readers.

To configure a composite reader:

  1. In the left pane of the Console, expand the node for an Edge Server and click Composite Readers.

The Composite Reader page displays the composite reader names.

  2. In the table, click a composite reader instance name.

The Edit Composite Reader page displays the device name and the included readers.

  3. Make changes as necessary.
  4. Click OK to save the changed composite reader configuration to the Edge Server.
