Test query parameters

When you test a query, you are testing only the query parameters associated with the subscription, not the destination and schedule controls. BEA recommends that you test the query portion of a subscription when creating a subscription or when modifying the parameters of an active subscription.

To test query parameters:

  1. Navigate to the Parameters page for the subscription whose query parameters you want to test.
    • For an active subscription, on the View Active Subscriptions page, click on its subscription ID in the Active Subscriptions table; then click Next on the General page.
    • If you are in the process of creating or modifying a subscription, and are not on the Parameters page, click the Next or Back buttons until you reach the page.
  2. On the Parameters page click Test Query.

The Console executes the query parameters against the data in the Event Repository, and displays the results in XML.

  3. Examine the XML query results and decide whether they are what you expect to see based on the query parameters.

There is no right or wrong set of results, the query will always return successfully. You must decide whether the results are satisfactory based on the set of query parameters you selected for this subscription. If the Event Repository is empty or if there is no event data in the repository that meets the query requirements, no results are displayed.

  4. Depending on whether the query results meet your expectations.
    • If the results meet your expectations, click Back to return to the Parameters page, and then click Next to proceed to the Destination page.
    • If the results do not meet your expectations, click Back to return to the Parameters page. Modify the parameters and values, and continue testing until Test Query displays the results you want.
