Glossary of Terms

action

Atomic unit of business functionality: the fundamental determinant of workflow behavior.

workflow expression

An algebraic expression yielding a result.

task reroute

Specification of how tasks assigned to one individual user are automatically reassigned by the system to another user or role.

role

A group of users, defined within an organization.

organization

A group of users. Workflow instances run within the context of an organization.

task

Atomic unit of work with which a user interacts directly. Displayed in the worklist.

task event

State transitions in life cycle of a task: CREATION, ACTIVATION, EXECUTION, MARKED DONE. Each state transition invokes the corresponding sequence of actions.

user

Authorized workflow user, defined externally in a security realm. Users have permissions and belong to organizations and roles.

template definition

Highest level expression of a business process. Defined as a network of interdependent nodes such as starts, decisions, dones, events, joins and tasks.

workflow trigger

Specification of external circumstances that will instantiate a workflow whenever those condition arises.

worklist

Central locus of activity for a workflow user. Displays lists of tasks for the user and the roles to which the user belongs.
