Get started using the WLOC Administration Console

Before you begin

Install WLOC and learn about how to configure and start the WLOC Controller and Agents. See Installation Guide and Configuration Guide, respectively.


The WLOC Administration Console is started automatically when you start the Controller, as described in Starting and Stopping the Controller and Agents. You can access the WLOC Administration Console, as described in Start the WLOC Administration Console.

Use the WLOC Administration Console to configure, manage, and monitor services in your environment, as described in the following sections.

Manage users, groups, and roles

The following sections describe the main user interface components of the WLOC Administration Console. A summary of icons that may appear in the console is also provided.

WLOC Toolbar

The WLOC toolbar, located in the upper right corner of the console, enables you to access the Home page, set preferences, log out, and access the console online help. The following table describes each tool in the WLOC toolbar.

Home

Navigate to the Home page of the WLOC Administraion Console for quick access to pages that enable you to:

Access the Preferences page to set preferences in your console environment. For more information, see Set console preferences.

Logout

Log out of the WLOC Administration Console. For more information, see Log out of the WLOC Administration Console.

Help

Display the WLOC Administration Console online help.

WLOC Navigation Bar

The WLOC navigation bar, located on the upper left side of the console, enables you to access pages used to configure and monitor the resources in your environment. The following table describes each tab in the WLOC navigation bar.

Home

Navigate to the Home page of the WLOC Administraion Console for quick access to pages that enable you to:

Inventory

Access the Inventory pane that provides access to a hierarchical view of resources (agents and resource pools) and services. From the Inventory pane, you can access the following pages:

From the Inventory pane, you can display an interactive, graphical view of inventory components.

Policies

Define the service level agreements (SLAs) for your services. SLAs specify the runtime requirements (constraints or rules) for a service and what actions to take when the service operates outside of those constraints. For more information, see Define and assign policies.

Events

Review the events that have occurred since the Controller was started and approve pending actions on existing service policies. For more information, see Monitor events and pending approvals.

Monitoring

Monitor the performance of your services against their SLAs and determine which resource pools are hosting services. For more information, see Monitor resources.

Controller

Configure and shudown the Controller. For more information, see Configure and manage the Controller.

Agents

Configure and manage the state of Agents. For more information, see Configure and manage Agents.

WLOC Tasks and Events Viewer

The Tasks and Events viewer, at the bottom of the WLOC Administration Console, displays the last 20 events that occurred. For more information about viewing events, see Monitor events and pending approvals.

Icons

The following table summarizes the icons that may appear next to fields in the WLOC Administration Console.

Icon Description

Indicates that a restart is required if you modify the parameter value. Depending on which component you are configuring, you may need to restart the Controller or Agent.

Notification icon. You can configure notification icons, as described in Define actions.
