Target connection factories

Use this page to target connection factories to selected JMS servers on a server instance, to all JMS servers on a server instance, to multiple server instances in a cluster, or to an entire cluster. You can also associate a connection factory with a configured SubDeployment. A SubDeployment is a mechanism by which JMS module resources (such as queues, topics, and connection factories) are grouped and targeted to a server resource (such as JMS servers, server instances, or cluster). For example, if you want to co-locate a connection factory with a group of destinations targeted to a specific JMS server, you can associate the connection factory with the SubDeployment the destinations belong to, provided the connection factory is not already targeted to multiple JMS servers.

Note: To temporarily stop this connection factory from creating JMS connections, un-target it from all JMS servers, servers, and clusters by deselecting them in the Target box.

To target connection factories:

  1. If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit (see Use the Change Center).
  2. In the Administration Console, navigate to the connection factory resource that you want to configure:
  3. Click the Target tab.
  4. In the SubDeployments field, select a SubDeployment to associate with the connection factory. When a SubDeployment is selected, its targeted servers appear as selected in the Target box.
  5. In the Target box:
    1. In the Cluster section, select each cluster on which you want to deploy the connection factory.
    2. In the Server section, select each server instance on which you want to deploy the connection factory.
    3. In the JMS Server section, select each JMS server on which you want to deploy the connection factory.

Note: The Cluster section is available only when the connection factory is part of a clustered WebLogic Server environment.

  6. Save your changes:
  7. To activate these changes, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Activate Changes.
Not all changes take effect immediately—some require a restart (see Use the Change Center).
