Workshop and WorkSpace Studio: FAQ

What is WorkSpace Studio?

WorkSpace Studio is the Eclipse IDE, customized for use by BEA products. It is a shared IDE used by all BEA products that use an Eclipse-based IDE.

WorkSpace Studio is not directly associated with any one specific BEA product. It replaces all existing product-specific branded launchers and product extensions.

How is this different from previous releases of Workshop?

In previous releases a customized IDE launcher was shipped with different products, such as Workshop for WebLogic, Workshop for JSP, AquaLogic Service Bus (ALSB), and AquaLogic Data Service Platform (ALDSP).

With the introduction of WorkSpace Studio the IDE is now associated with a specific installation of Eclipse, not a specific product. When you start the IDE, you are starting a common tool instead of a specific product. Once the IDE is launched, it can be used to work with any or all of the products that are available in that IDE.

What's in a name?
"Workshop Studio" vs. "WorkSpace Studio"

Workshop Studio is one of the products in the Workshop Product Family, which also includes Workshop for WebLogic and Workshop for JSP.

WorkSpace Studio is the new BEA-branded Eclipse IDE launcher and associated eclipse product extension that all IDE-based BEA products will use.

Is Workshop being replaced by WorkSpace Studio?

No. All features that were previously available in Workshop continue to exist in this release. All of the Workshop products (including Workshop for WebLogic, Workshop Studio, and Workshop for JSP) still exist as in previous releases.
