Project costs can be distributed among multiple funding sources. The Funds Distribution Application Engine process (PC_FND_DIST) distributes funding by applying funds distribution rules to incoming transactions, and assigning costs accordingly. Afterwards, you can use the Pricing Application Engine process (PC_PRICING) to price funded rows for billing purposes.

First, you enable funds distribution during implementation in the Installation Options - Project Costing Integration page. Then you distribute funds using a three-step process:

  1. Identify transactions for activities that are eligible for distribution.

  2. Define the funds distribution rules—the percentages of the transaction amounts that are passed on to each funding source.

  3. Run the Funds Distribution process.

See Defining Project Costing Integration Installation Options.

There are three ways to generate target transaction rows in the Project Transaction table (PROJ_RESOURCE) based on the funds distribution source criteria:

Access the Funds Distribution - Target Definition page for funds distribution.

Use this page to define the transaction amount percentages that the system uses to distribute transaction amounts to funding sources.

Rate Amount

Enter the percentage of the cost covered by the funding source. For each incoming transaction that meets the source criteria, the system creates a target row in the Project Transaction table with an amount equal to the defined percentage of the cost, and it uses the analysis type, activity, source type, category, and subcategory that are defined in this row in the Define Target Rows grid. Because project costs can be distributed among multiple funding sources, you can enter as many rows as needed.

Target Activity

Optionally enter a different activity ID in the project to override the current activity that appears at the top of the page. The default value is the current activity.

Override Source

Select to override the source type, category, and subcategory from the source transaction that appears by default on the target transaction row that the system creates in the Project Transaction table. When you activate this option, you can enter a source type, category and subcategory that the system assigns to the resulting target transaction rows. The default value is check box cleared.

Target Source Type, Target Category, and Target Subcategory

If the Override Source option is selected, take one of these actions in the Target Source Type, Target Category, and Target Subcategory fields:

Enter a value for the system to assign to the resulting target transaction rows.

Enter the wildcard value (a percent sign) for the target transaction rows to inherit the same value as the source transaction rows.

Leave the field blank for the target transaction rows to inherit a blank value.

To create journal entries based on the funds distribution rows, add the target analysis type to the analysis group PSREV (System Revenue) or PSCST (Accounting Costs) if it is not already in one of these groups.

Note. To enable the rules defined on the Funds Distribution - Target Definition page, activate Enable Funds Distribution and select the Date Option on the Installation Options - Project Costing Integration page.
