Siebel Deployment Planning Guide > Siebel Architecture Overview > About Siebel Client TypesThis topic describes the Siebel client types. The term Siebel Web Client sometimes refers to all of the browser-based clients and sometimes refers to one specific client type, which is described in the following subtopic. For more information about the Siebel Web Clients, see Siebel Client Deployment Planning. Siebel Web ClientThe Siebel Web Client runs in a standard browser on the end user's client computer. The browser connects through a Web server to the Siebel Server, which executes business logic and accesses data from the Siebel database. Only the user interface layer of the Siebel Business Applications architecture resides on the user's computer. Applications using the Siebel Web Client might be deployed using Siebel Open UI, high interactivity, or standard interactivity. For applications provided as high-interactivity applications, you can deploy them using Siebel Open UI instead. Other considerations about the Siebel Web Client are as follows:
Siebel Mobile Web ClientThe Siebel Mobile Web Client is like the Siebel Web Client except that it includes installable software and uses a local database that synchronizes with the Siebel database. Applications using the Siebel Mobile Web Client can be deployed using Siebel Open UI or high interactivity. The Siebel Mobile Web Client includes the following:
Siebel Developer Web ClientThe Siebel Developer Web Client is like the Siebel Mobile Web Client except that it connects with the Siebel database for the enterprise. Applications using the Siebel Developer Web Client can be deployed using Siebel Open UI or high interactivity. NOTE: This client type is supported for limited administration and troubleshooting purposes only. The Siebel Developer Web Client includes the following:
Siebel Mobile ApplicationsThe Siebel Mobile applications are a group of Siebel Business Applications that are accessed from a browser on a mobile device, such as a tablet or smart phone, where the browser is connected to a Siebel Server. The Siebel Mobile applications are deployed using Siebel Open UI. For more information about the Siebel Mobile applications, see Siebel Mobile Guide: Connected and Siebel Mobile Guide: Disconnected. For information about setting up the server environment to support these applications, see the Siebel Installation Guide for the operating system you are using and other documentation. See also My Oracle Support Certifications. Siebel Wireless ClientThe Siebel Wireless Client is a modified Siebel Web Client that runs on a mobile device. Users can view, edit, and create records in the Siebel database through a wireless connection between a mobile device and a Web server. An Internet-enabled mobile phone, personal digital assistant, or other wireless device communicates with a wireless gateway server, which translates messages for display in a browser on the device. Several different types of wireless browsers are supported. For a list of Siebel Business Applications that support wireless access, see Siebel Wireless Administration Guide. For information about setting up the server environment to support this client, see the Siebel Installation Guide for the operating system you are using and other documentation. See also My Oracle Support Certifications. Siebel Handheld ClientThe Siebel Handheld Client is a streamlined version of the Siebel Mobile Web Client that runs on a handheld device. It includes only the functionality required by field technician end users. The Siebel Handheld Client supports the same data relationships, the same configuration in Siebel Tools, and much of the same functionality as the Siebel Mobile Web Client. Siebel Handheld runs on devices that support the Windows CE operating system. For more information, see the Siebel Handheld documentation on Siebel Bookshelf. For information about setting up the server environment to support these applications, see the Siebel Installation Guide for the operating system you are using and other documentation.
