Registering Store and Forward Messaging Device on First Synchronization

Store-and-Forward Messaging (SFM) registration occurs on the first synchronization with the Siebel Server. SFM device registration is the initial step of registering SFM for a Siebel Handheld application. If SFM device registration fails, the application prompts the user to retry SFM registration. If the user chooses not to retry SFM registration, the application displays an error and synchronization is completed. If no acknowledgement message is received, the synchronization client displays an information message and the application operates in a no-store-and-forward mode.

The main application does not send registration messages after the timeout is reached. If the main application detects that the device is not yet registered, the application is operated in a no-store-and-forward mode, which means no default icons and transactions are saved until the next synchronization is performed.

One communication mechanism avoids situations where ActiveSync is on, but the SFM channel is blocked. In this situation, if the SFM device registration fails (for example, the SFM server component is not properly enabled or fails), the synchronization for the Handheld application can still be completed and the user can still open the Handheld application.

For more information about synchronization for the Handheld application, see Siebel Product Administration Guide for the Siebel Handheld application you are using. For more information about synchronizing and registering, see Siebel Store-and-Forward Messaging Guide for Handheld.
